The Upper East Regional Youth Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Salahu-Deen Musah Al-Khomeini has pleaded with the party youth in the region to be patient with President Akuffo-Addo and defend their party NPP with all their might as measures are being taken to address the current economic challenges that have bedeviled this country. The Regional Organizer made the plea on Saturday, November 5, 2022, when joined the Zebilla Constituency Youth Wing to grace the maiden Constituency Youth Forum under the theme “ Igniting the Patriotic Spirit of the Youth for Unity; A catalyst for breaking the Eight (8)”. During his speech, the Regional Youth Organizer indicated that the Youth should be patient with President Akuffo-Addo and defend this party with all their might. Stressing that measures are being taken to address the current economic challenges that have bedeviled this country. “This is just a fluke that will soon pass”. He stated. Meanwhile, following the party records, it appears this is the first time an NPP Regional Youth Organizer has taken a step to invite a Party National Youth Organizer to grace a Constituency Youth Forum which was duly honored. Gov’t is buying themselves time to see whether they can disappear – Isaac Adongo The members of minority in Parliament has revealed the government is not showing any seriousness with regards to striking a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The NDC MPs said, government is playing hide and seek with the Fund while pursuing other options which they argue are not favorable to the survival of the country’s economy. The Bolgatanga Central MP, Isaac Adongo disclosed when addressing Journalists. According to Mr. Adongo, the IMF bailout has been delayed as a result of government’s refusal to announce a debt restructuring roadmap. “In the meantime they are buying themselves time to see whether that can disappear, but they will need to take that bold decision on debt restructuring because it’s not an option. Ghana as we speak today does not comply with the requirement of IMF for a funded programme because the IMF does not lend into an unsustainable situation and Ghana’s debt has been concluded to be unsustainable. And this fact was communicated to government in its 8th memoir that the IMF issued the last time before it left. So there is no way we can have an IMF programme that is supported by funding without undertaking steps to bring our debt to sustainable levels so that we’re in compliance with the IMF own internal requirements.” Mr. Adongo further disclosed government is struggling to put together the 2023 budget thus the inability to present it by the stipulated date of November 15, 2022 per the public finance management Act. Don’t step foot in Upper East Region– Salam Mustapha told
A Deputy Youth Organizer aspirant of the opposition National Democratic Congress has cautioned the National Youth Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party Salam Mustapha not to step his foot in the Upper East Region again to engage in what he described of elementary politics. My brother, I’m writing this piece through you to your National boss Mr Salam Mustapha. “To be warned is to be told” Don’t ever step your foot in the Upper East Region again to engage in this kind of elementary politics. The Upper East Region contributed immensely with their votes to make Nana Addo President but the only payback he could offer is to fail to include the region in his cabinet. In addition to that: *The Upper East Region never saw their promised factories. *The Upper East Region never saw their dams. In fact, on the contrary the region only witnessed a few drying dugouts in some few communities. *The Upper East Region never saw their multipurpose dam as was promised to be built in Kpalugu. *Even Basic Amenities such as streetlights to help night security are not functioning. *The traffic lights are not functioning as well. *The slow nature of the Bolga Bawku road is discouraging. Yet you came to the Upper East Region to say what? So listen, tell your pay masters (Nana Addo and Bawumia) not to also step their foot here as well. Please take this as a serious warning. Thank you. Economic crisis: PNC’s recommendations to gov’t
The People’s National Convention (PNC) has submitted a proposal on how to mitigate the effects of the current economic crisis on Ghanaians. According to the party, these proposals will help the government in finding solutions to the challenges facing the economy. The proposals come on the back of President Akufo-Addo’s national address last week, in which he conceded that the country is in a crisis. The PNC, in a statement, noted that it agrees that the economy is in recession, hence, the proposal to the government in finding solutions to the challenges. The proposals are as follows: 1. The general increases in prices of goods and services, are obviously being driven by the unprecedented increases in petroleum prices exacerbated by the free fall of the Ghana Cedi. We commend the government’s initiative to import cheap petroleum products as a short-term measure to stabilise prices. Again we recommend that government should take charge of the importation and pricing of petroleum products to ensure prices are affordable for the ordinary Ghanaian. Government should not pay attention to the few individuals trying to thwart its efforts by saying it is impossible. Meanwhile, the government must hasten the operationalisation of the Tema Oil Refinery and other refineries under construction to help permanently bring fuel prices under control. 2. PNC welcomes the decision by the government to reduce the importation of certain foods and beverages into the country. This is not going to be easy however, more proactive measures must be taken in planning to wean us off the importation of products we can produce locally. 3. We recommend that government should regulate and be part of the importation of rice and other essential products into the country. The government through the Buffer Stock Company must buy the local rice from producers and equally be in control of the amount of rice imported into the country. Government guaranteeing market for local rice producers will encourage local rice farmers to scale their production thereby leading to self-reliance in the production of rice. This should be replicated in the production of other foodstuffs. 4. Again, the total reliance on the private sector, in these hard times, to be the sole importer of essential commodities, has not been helpful, as businesses are taking advantage of the situation by selling essential commodities at exorbitant prices. Government must take steps to control the importation of certain essential commodities into the country to ensure affordable prices of such commodities. 5. We recommend to the government as a matter of urgency to revamp the operations of the Metro Mass Transport (MMT) and other Public Transport Agencies within three months to minimise the rising cost of transportation, especially within the cities and to offer free rides to schoolgoing children and the elderly. Mini-buses should be added to their fleet of vehicles to augment the already existing ‘trotro’ and help serve as a check on their charges. 6. We recommend to the government to clamp down on the pricing of items in dollars. We would like the government to enforce the Foreign Exchange Act, 2006 (Act 723) which prohibits pricing, advertising and receipt or payment for goods and services in foreign currency in Ghana. The sole legal tender in Ghana is the Ghana Cedi (GHC) and Ghana Pesewa (Gp) and anyone who will violate this act be it hotels, companies, institutions or individuals should be severely punished to serve as a deterrent. 7. The call for the government to cut down on its appointees is justifiable. The government’s move to continue the reduction of its appointee’s salary by 30% was commendable but it is not being seen to be a great sacrifice as such, we recommend that the government cut down the number of appointees and put the remaining ones on full salary for them to be well motivated to meet performance expectations. This singular act will bring back the credibility and trust the government need from Ghanaians. The party called on Ghanaians to remain resolute and optimistic about getting out of these difficult times. “Let us all, and as individuals conduct our businesses in a way that should not cause fear and panic, which will further ruin us all,” the statement added. — Classfmonline.com—
