Bishop Dag Heward –Mills resigns again as National Cathedral Board Trustee member
Founder and leader of the Lighthouse Chapel International, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills has resigned as member of the Board of Trustee at Cathedral project.His reason for resignation was made known, according to him, even though outside the trustee he is known as a member, he feels he is neglected on some of the concerns he has raised.“I feel that the treatment of the issues I have raised in my several letters has been unfortunate. My letters have been ignored in the past; not attended to for years, and at best addressed flippantly.” “You may recall I have spoken passionately and written extensively about the costs, the design, the location, the fundraising, the mobilization of the churches, and the role of the trustees. These, if heeded, would have made our project more achievable. Generally speaking, my inputs, my opinions, and my letters have been trivialized and set aside.” With regards to the directors of the board, he said he was surprised he was not registered as Director of the Company of the National Cathedral of Ghana despite the fact that President had “verbally appointed him as such. Bishop Dag Heward-Mills also said he was shocked some unknown individuals were the real Trustees of the Board despite the fact that he was the director for 6 years without being registered. “I do not believe this is an oversight but a deliberate exclusion from the Board. Six years is a long time to correct this failure to register me if it was indeed an administrative lapse.” “l have therefore accepted for some time now that I am not a trustee of the National Cathedral, but I have still sought to help with the Cathedral because I believe in the President’s vision and I do not have to be a legally registered trustee to do so. I refer to myself in this letter as a trustee because even though l am not privy to most of the weighty decisions of the Board I am referred to as such.” Dag Heward-Mills also raised concerns of lack of clarity on the church. He said several concerns raised about the trustees and the individuals were ignored as many issues regarding the finances of the cathedral were decided on by some persons outside the trustees. “I have been a reachable and available trustee and attended every single meeting of trustees since the pandemic began, in person and by zoom, and the records will show that. If I say that I, as a trustee, do not know many of the financial and technical issues concerning the Cathedral, it means the discussions about the National Cathedral were held by some people outside the trustees’ meeting or perhaps in a forum that I was not present or invited to. “On the one hand, the National Cathedral is said to be a Government of Ghana project, with the government taking financial decisions. Yet, on another hand, at meetings, it is implied that the trustees have taken or participated in taking some decisions.” While resigning, Bishop Dag said: I would like to state clearly that if in the future, there is more clarity to my role and function in the building of the Cathedral, I remain open, available and willing to serve at the pleasure of the President and the nation. Regardless of your response to my resignation and inputs, I remain a supporter of the National Cathedral project and will endeavour to be present to rejoice with the nation when this project is completed.” Bishop Dag however added that even though he has resigned from the trustees, he is not against the construction of the national cathedral. “…I do not wish the media or general public to construe my withdrawal as a sign of a lack of support or belief in the building of the National Cathedral.” One of the top priorities of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government is the building of a 5,000-seater Cathedral in fulfilment of a pledge made by the President to God before winning the 2016 elections. According to the President, the construction of the National Cathedral is pivotal to the development of Ghana. He explained that the country’s comparative performance against neighbouring countries is mainly by the grace of God. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on March 16 appointed a 13-Member Board of Trustees to spearhead Ghana’s National Cathedral. At their inauguration at the Jubilee House, the President said the 13-member Board of Trustees will be in charge of the National Cathedral when it is completed. Tempane DCE presents 2 motorking ambulances to District Health Director for improved health delivery
The Tempane District Assembly through Chief Executive Issaka Anabida has presented two motorking ambulances to the district health directorate for the improvement of health service delivery, especially in some distance communities. Presenting the ambulances to the district health director, the DCE said: “We are here present two motorking ambulances to the Tempane District Health Directorate, already in the district, the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has provided one main ambulance for the health services but it was inadequate because most of our communities are in the hinterlands. So, it is not possible for one ambulance to move to all the areas”. According to him, the government under the One million dollar project per constituency provided these two ambulances through the Northern Development Authority (NDA) for each assembly to hand it over to the health directorate, to help the running of the health services in the district. “What I would also want to add on behalf of the assembly is that, am entreating the health director to make sure they put it into good use. Let’s all put our heads together in managing the ambulance, not the director alone. Because we are all in a district and we will see how it is used. “If you see the driver using it in a way that is not the best, we shouldn’t wait till the health director, he may not see because we are the people in the community. So, anything that will not be in the interest of this and any other assets of the assembly, let’s all be concerned so that at the end of the day, our people will benefit from the service’s initiative. The DCEs advised Meanwhile, the Tempane District Health Director Eugene Osei Yeboah expressed gratitude to the government for their kind gesture. He was confident ambulance will benefit the people of the district, especially the pregnant women. “Sometimes, transporting pregnant women during emergencies to the nearest health facilities is very difficult. These ambulances will be able to mitigate some of the current challenges of transporting our clients to the health facility. We will also promise to put it to good use to be sure that the servicing is done periodically so that at least it can last long enough for us. Former Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Mr. Bernard Anbataayela Mornah has said some men of God seen in cassocks are armed robbers and not what they made their congregations know about them. According to Mr. Mornah, persons in authority must honor themselves in a manner that will ensure that there is public respect for the offices they hold. And in this instance, some of our Reverends who carry themselves in Cassock and are actually armed robbers. He was responding to the heartbreaking revelation made by the North Tongu Member of Parliament Mr. Ablakwa about the National Secretary Rev. Kusi Boateng who was cut for acquiring two different identities with a different name and date of birth. “The man has two identities and uses one identity to do church service and uses one identity to go and establishes a business and uses that identity he establishes to do a business to now transact with a cathedral”. “If it is Kusi Boateng that was genuine and wanted to assist the national cathedral with the so-called loan they are claiming which is now coming up because, in the document presented to parliament, there was no loan to be repaid. So, if it is that same person, why is he trying to hide your identity? “If people are supposed to lead congregations and look pure and they do these kinds of things to smuggle the society. It is possible that within the same congregation he ministers, he will even be doing business with the same congregation. Becoming a businessman at one end and at the same time, the preacher at the other end. So obviously, this name’ thing is criminal in nature. The attempt by the Cathedral Secretariat to come and defend this indefensible actually put the whole cathedral in a very bad light.
