The Member of Parliament for the North-Tongu Constituency, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa in his recent exposé has made a revelation on the Presidency spent an amount of GH¢15million on the replacement of tyres and batteries of vehicles in its pool between January and September 2022. The lawmaker said, the revelation is according to documents on expenditure provided to Parliament by the Presidency. Apart from spending an unbelievable GHS15million on car tyres & batteries between Jan-Sept 2022; the Ghanaian presidency also thinks this is the time to be spending a staggering GHS1.3million drafting a strategic plan for the presidency. Tom Brady officially hangs up from NFL
Tom Brady has set the record straight by posting a simple message on his social media accounts that announced he was hanging it up for good. “I’ll get straight to the point, I’m retiring. For good,” Brady said. “I know the process was a big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning I figured I’d just press record and let you guys know first.” The next question is obvious: Is Tom Brady really retiring from the NFL? We did this song and dance last year when Brady retired, but he went back on that a month later when he announced he would be returning for one more season. At the time it was believed that Brady was motivated to come back so he could retire the way he wanted to, and not be beaten to his own punch by Adam Schefter — which is what caused the whole circus in the first place. Schefter announced Brady’s retirement before the man himself could, which not only seemed to be a motivating factor for Brady to return but put a sour note on the whole event. In the days leading up to Brady unretiring, Mike Florio from PFT noted that the retirement was from the Buccaneers and not the NFL. That came on the heels of reports that Brady wanted to team up with Sean Payton in Miami and finish his career with the Dolphins. That didn’t happen, and while his final season with the Buccaneers didn’t go the way anyone thought it would, Brady’s retirement seems to be official this time. Ghana’s economy’ll cool off in 2023, rebound in 2024 – IMF
The International Monetary Fund has said it expects Ghana’s economy to pick up steam in 2024. During the Q&A session at the just-ended World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Mr Daniel Leigh, Division Chief at the Research Department, told journalists, in response to a question that Ghana’s tottering economy will grow slowly this year but then pick up momentum the following year. “On Ghana, we do expect growth to slow this year”, Mr Leigh said, explaining: “This is partly because of the global headwinds…” “So, it’s a difficult time for the global economy that affects Ghana”, he noted. But also, he added, “there are some domestic headwinds. In particular, inflation has increased significantly”. “And, so, the central bank is tightening monetary policy, but that is cooling the economy domestically”, Mr Leigh noted, indicating: “Plus, the fiscal policies are tightening to address the elevated debt. This is the cooling in 2023”. “But in 2024, we see a rebound, in particular, in the extractive activities. And that is going to support Ghana in 2024”, he pointed out. “I would add that right now – so just very recently – the IMF team went to Ghana, reached agreement with the Ghanaian authorities on an economic reform programme that will be supported under a $3-billion extended credit facility”. “And the goal of that programme is to reestablish macroeconomic stability, debt sustainability, and create the foundations for higher and inclusive growth over the medium-term”. On the expected situation in the sub-region, Mr Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas, Chief Economist and Director, Research Department, said: “On Sub-Saharan Africa, what I can say is that we have a difficult year for the region that is very much affected by the external forces that are shaping the global outlook, whether it’s the Russian war in Ukraine and energy crisis or the fight against inflation and the tightening of global financial conditions that comes with that”. “But growth is projected to be around 3.8 per cent in Sub-Saharan Africa. And this is quite a bit below the typical growth rates that the region experienced before the pandemic”, Mr Gourinchas said. “And in addition, in the region, there is an issue of food insecurity. Even though food prices have come back – the food price index has come back to pre-war level, so levels we had about a year ago or a little bit more than that – they’re still elevated compared to pre-pandemic times. Hulk Hogan is not paralyzed, according to his rep.
Hulk Hogan, the WWE legend’s health generated serious concern after his colleague wrestler Kurt Angle hinted that he was informed by Hogan that he lost all feeling in his lower body. However, Hogan’s representative disregarded the claim, stressing that the Hall of Famer is “doing well and is not paralyzed” following back surgery. “Everything is OK with him,” Hogan’s rep told Entertainment Tonight. “Hulk is someone with a lot of humor.” Speaking on “The Kurt Angle Show,” the former Olympic champion said Hogan now relies on the help of a cane for mobility. “Hogan had his back surgery again,” he said on Sunday’s episode. “He had the nerves cut from his lower body. He can’t feel his lower body. So let’s use his cane to walk around. I thought he was using the cane because he had pain in his back. He doesn’t have any pain. He has nothing at all. He can’t feel anything.” Angle said the former wrestler revealed some critical details about his health during the filming of WWE’s Monday Night Raw 30th anniversary episode, which aired on Jan. 23. “So now he can’t feel his legs. So he has to walk with a cane which is, you know, that’s pretty serious, man,” he went on. “I really feel for Hogan. He put his heart and soul into the business and ate him up.” “I mean, if you’re gonna kick off the show, the 30th anniversary of Raw, [it] should be Hulk Hogan. He’s the name and face of the company. Boris Johnson pushes for Ukraine aid during a meeting with U.S. Republicans
Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has met with Republican lawmakers on Tuesday, insisting on the United States to continue their aid support to Ukraine to help them in their fight against Russia’s assaults The former prime minister spoke with U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy, the top Republican, in his office and is scheduled to speak at a private Republican club in the evening, said Representative Joe Wilson, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Mr. Johnson is also scheduled to meet with a group of Republican senators, said U.S. Senator Todd Young, though he said he was unaware of the exact timing. “I am here primarily to recognize and pay tribute to the immense U.S. contribution to the security of the Ukrainian people,” Johnson said in a statement. “My mission is to demonstrate that Ukraine will win – and that there is no conceivable case for delay in further supporting the Ukrainians to win this year. We should have no fear of escalation when it comes to the provision of weaponry.” However, U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s office did not respond to a request for comment. Johnson, who left office in September following a series of scandals, was prime minister when Russia invaded Ukraine in February last year. He sought to position the UK as Ukraine’s top ally in the West and has continued to do so. During a trip to Ukraine this month, Johnson visited Borodyanka and Bucha, suburbs of the capital Kyiv that became a byword in the West for Russian atrocities. Moscow denies allegations by Ukraine and its Western allies that it has committed war crimes. In a Washington Post opinion piece published on Monday, Johnson argued for the admission of Ukraine to the NATO military alliance and that the process should start now. Wilson, who will be among the lawmakers meeting Johnson, is a staunch Ukraine supporter, having even suggested the placement of a bust of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in the U.S. Capitol.
