Christian Atsu, the Ghanaian professional player has not been found contrary to reports on Wednesday, that the 31-year-old winger had been pulled alive with injuries from the wreckage following the devastating earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria on Monday, 6 February 2023. Kahveci, who is the team doctor of the club Atsu plays for in Turkey, Hatayspor, on Wednesday, 8 February 2023, said both the player and sporting director, Taner Savut are still yet to be found. “When we heard the news that he was taken to Dortyol Hospital, we especially went and looked, but it was not there. At the moment, we accept that [the sporting director] Taner Savut and Christian Atsu were not found, unfortunate,” he said. Monday’s earthquake has so far claimed the lives of more than 8,700 people while 15,000 others sustained injuries. Hundreds are also missing with rescue efforts underway. Atsu played for Hatayspor on Sunday, coming on as a substitute and scoring the winning goal in the home game against Kasimpasa. A former Black Stars player with over 60 caps, Ghanaian leaders such as the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, his vice Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former President John Mahama and a host of others have called on Ghanaians to pray for Atsu to be rescued alive.

He, therefore, described the purported installation of Osabarima Kentenka Ateabisa Pobi as Asamankese Chief amidst violence as “unlawful, irregular, uncustomary, being an aberration of Akyem Abuakwa custom and therefore null, void and of no effect.” However, addressing the media, the Abusuapanyin of Royal Akua Korang lineage of Abrade Akwamu Clan of Asamankese, Opanyin Kwasi Asare, said all necessary legal steps taken from judicial committee of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council to the Regional House of Chiefs and Koforidua High Court were declared in their favour, therefore, the nomination, installation, and enstoolment of Osabarima Kentenka Ateabisa Pobi Asomaning as Asamankesehene is in line with Akwamu culture and legitimate. The Registrar of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs Mr. Richmond Persawu says processes for gazetting were initiated by Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council which presented the candidate to the Research Committee of the Regional House of Chiefs, then moved to the standing committee before finally laid before the house for approval for the Registrar to send same to the National House of Chiefs for gazetting. NDC man who said it’s oK to kill NPP supporters for Mahama’s victory detained by police
Police in the Ashanti region has detained the Suame Constituency youth organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for inflaming electoral violence. Razak Koampa Avoliya, who has been charged with offensive conduct, was detained at the Suntreso District police command after turning himself in at the regional police headquarters. He was accompanied to the police station by the National Organiser of the NDC, Mr Joseph Yamin; Deputy General Secretary Mustapha Bandi as well as some regional executives of the party. Scores of supporters of the party in the Suame constituency as well as other constituencies in the region also stormed the police station to sympathise with him amidst war chants. Speaking to the media, the lawyer for the NDC youth organiser, Mr Evans Amankwa, told the media that his client has been charged after his statement was taken. Mr Amankwa said Koampa, popularly called ‘Mosquito’, was supposed to be taken to court but due to the time factor, he will rather be arraigned tomorrow. Mr Amankwa wants the police to take steps to arrest members of the NPP who have made similar statements as his client to avoid selective justice. His client, he said, meant what he said and is not in any way perturbed about it but has no intention of destabilising the peace of the nation as the statement has been misinterpreted. The suspect, in a viral video, was captured calling on supporters of the NDC to attack and even kill supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the run-up to the 2024 general elections.

Telecommunication giant, MTN Ghana, has joined the world to mark the 20th edition of the ‘Safer Internet Day’ celebration with students of the Osu Presbyterian Senior High School in Accra. The aim of the event is to sensitise and reorient students on the safe use of the internet for an improved cybersecurity culture. According to data by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in 2020 alone, 71% of the world’s youth aged between 15 and 24 years were more connected to the internet than the rest of the population. This ratio clearly indicates that there is a high likelihood that young people may become victims of cyber attacks, hence it is important for Ghanaians in general and young people in particular to learn about cyber security. Speaking to Joy Business after the event, Senior Manager for Enterprise Information Security and Governance at MTN Ghana, Jacqueline Hanson Kotei, said MTN Ghana will not relent in its efforts to raise awareness on emerging online issues and the associated strategies for resolution. “I think it’s imperative that we partner, encourage, help, lead and guide them on how to be safe on the internet. We have kids cyber bullied leading to things like suicide. So this is something that needs to be hammered over and over again”. “It’s something we are going to do the entire year. We will take the opportunity to educate the youth especially the MTN customers as well”, she added. Headmaster of the School, Vincent Esoah commended MTN for the move and passionately appeal to both the organisation and corporate Ghana to help the school with computers to support academic work. He emphasised that even though the school is ICT inclined, there is a deficit of ICT gadgets like computers, therefore the school resorts to renting computers for writing the West African Senior High School Certificate Examination. “Education is a shared responsibility and having had MTN to come to your school, we can’t but provide support, for our ICT department. We are having over 300 students doing elective ICT and we have very few computers and so we often rent computers to write WASSCE. We are appealing to MTN and other corporate bodies to support”. Some students who spoke to Joy Business expressed gratitude to MTN for the insight on Cyber security and promised to be cautious on the internet. Upper East NDC leadership are late commas, reasons why they can’t get development for the region
If you are wondering why the debate about the NDC in the Upper East Region not bringing development still exists in the minds of some residents of the region, don’t look any further. Apexnewsgh.com report Mr. Yen Nyeya has revealed, that those seen as NDC leadership in the Upper East Region are late commas in the party, they are not seen as parts and parcels of the party. The reason they are not given attention by the party when it comes to sharing the national cake for the region’s development. Giving a brief history of what happened in the past, he said Upper West is well recognized by the NDC because when former President Jerry J. Rawlings needed an alternative, he found Upper West as a source to recruit and counterpart people in the Upper East Region and that is why we have the Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin’s, the present Speaker, you had the late Sali and others who were brought into the regime and in the process of development, any little development is sent there. So, the Upper Easterners who later joined the PNDC or the NDC were late commas and you can see, that they don’t have that strength or control. Supposing if I and Nicholas Atampugre and Co had stayed, we may have been able to extract resources. The Cletus Avoka and Mahama Ayariga, they came later. So, because they were late commas, they were not able to gain that access because is about those whose voices are heard. But unfortunately, they are not seen as part of the various government that has ruled in the NDC and NPP, the leadership are not seen as part and parcel of those parties, they are not seen as owners. Hon. Asaga and co were Ministers but they were seen as late commas. Mr. Nyeya believes the people he describes as late commas in the NDC didn’t have much influence to extract development for the region. “So, they didn’t have that much influence and even in terms of a new colonial development, they could not access the little resources that were there to the region and that is why up to now, we don’t have an Airport”.
