Make exercise a regular feature in your daily lives–Regional Minister appeals to workers
The Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu has used the ‘Peace Walk’ activity organized by Parliamentarians in the region to appeal to all participants to make walking exercise a regular feature in their daily lives. Hon. Yakubu made the appeal on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at the climax of the 30th Anniversary of Parliamentary Democracy organized by Members of Parliament. Addressing Parliamentarians and members of the general public who participated in the Peace Walk, Hon. Said: “The significance of this celebration are enormous. First of all, it is a recognition of the role each of our regions can play in the development of the country irrespective of your geographical location. It also makes the people of the region and the country at large recognize the importance of democratic rule. And above all, this Health Walk together with the other fun games will undoubtedly improve upon the health of especially sedentary workers”. The regional Minister acknowledged that most workers hardly allocate time for themselves to do exercise, as he used the opportunity to appeal for them to make exercise a regular activity in their daily lives “These groups of workers hardly find time to exercise but are always found sitting behind their desks. We will like to use this opportunity to appeal to all participants to make walking exercise a regular feature in their daily lives”. “Let me state that parliament is a noble institution that is clothed with the authority to make laws for the country. Consequently, as citizens, we need to consider the caliber of persons we vote to represent us as our legislators. We need to vote for these people based on their integrity and love for the region and country”. “At the end of the day, we want people who can represent the hopes and aspirations of the citizenry. I am highly delighted to see in our midst this morning former members of parliament including my good self-participating in this epoch-making celebration irrespective of our political lineage”. The celebration of the 30th anniversary of parliamentary democracy was climaxed in Bogatanga the Upper East Regional capital. It started with a peace walk from the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) through the principal street of Bolgatanga and later ended at Mobile Park. Meanwhile, ending the peace walk for the morning section, the Members of Parliament reconvened at the mobile park for the climax which saw a lot of sporting activities such as a sack race, draft, and football games. Interestingly, the Members of Parliament present at the celebration participated in all the sporting activities and did massively well. One would have thought that the MPs are only good at making laws in the chamber of parliament. Unfortunately, the MPs have proven that aside from making laws in parliament, they are also good at sporting activities, especially football. The member of parliament for Nabdam Constituency Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane, the Bolga East MP, Dr. Dominc Ayine, the Bolga Central MP, Isaac Adongo, the Garu MP, Hon. Albert Akuka Alalzuuga and Hon. Cletus Avoka the Zebilla Member of parliament exhibited massive skills in the field of play during a football game between staff of Upper East Regional Coordinating Council and Members of Parliament. However, because of the tough nature of the game, both sides ended the game in a 1-1 draw resulting in a penalty that later went in favor of the RCC team. UER: National Service Personnel Within Bolga Municipality Lament Over Unlawful Extortion Of Their Monthly Allowa By NSS Officials
Some aggrieved National Service Personnel in the Bolgatanga Municipality in the Upper East Region have petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice CHRAJ), the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bolgatanga Hon Rex Asanga, the Upper East Regional Minister, the Media and other key opinion leaders in the Upper East Region to aid stop the unlawful extortion of GHC7 from their monthly allowance which is already woefully insufficient for their upkeep. According to the aggrieved National Service Personnel, the said amount imposed on them are supposed to be paid within three months (May to July), and when payment is not made, their monthly evaluation forms would not be accepted to be processed for the payment of their monthly stipend. This move by the NSS Secretariat have been seriously opposed by Personnel with the ultimate reason been that the charges are baseless, unfair and illegal. “As service personnel, we are determined and prepared to take appropriate legal steps to ensure that this callous breaches on our fundamental human rights and freedoms as enshrined in article 21(e) of the 1992 constitution of the Republic of Ghana are restored in full” Mr. Edward Atariba stressed. Reliable information indicates that on 16th June, 2023, some personnel went to summit their evaluation forms and were asked to pay at least GHC30 and due to their inability to pay the said amount, their monthly evaluation forms were rejected by officials of the Bolgatanga NSS Secretariat. The personnel are therefore appealing to the Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu and other relevant stakeholders to intervene in reversing the trend. We need a sports stadium for the people of Upper East Region—Hon. Cletus Avoka
The Member of Parliament for the Zebilla Constituency Hon. Cletus Avoka has intensified calls for a sports stadium for the people of the Upper East region. Hon. Avoka spoke to Apexnewsgh.com in Bolgatanga after the celebration of the 30th anniversary of parliamentary democracy in the region on Saturday, June 17, 2023. Meanwhile, responding to a question with regards lack of stadiums in the region, the Zebilla Member of Parliament said, the only abandoned stadium in the region started in the 1970s and one would have thought it would have developed into either a regional or national status. “The Bolgatanga Sports Stadium started during the Achampong’s time in the 1970s and we thought that by now they would have developed it to a regional status or a national status. So that, if we get a team in the first division in the premier league of Ghana they can all play or if there is African cup of nation like Tamale was one of the centers, Bolga can also be a center”. Hon. Avoka acknowledged the Upper East stadium as a challenge to the Ministry in charge of sport, as he promised, that they will be making a case with the Ministry when they returned back to Parliament. “Is a challenge to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to as a matter of urgency, we need a sports stadium for the people of Upper East Region and we already had one but it needs development and am using this forum to inform them that there is a lot of sporting potentials in the region and not only football but other disciplines.
