NDC: 7 clears to contest Adansi Asokwa, Fomena, Mampong
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has cleared seven candidates to contest in three of the four constituencies in the Ashanti region where parliamentary primaries were put on hold. The cleared candidates will be able to contest in the Mampong, Adansi Asokwa, and Fomena constituencies. Nominations were opened on August 1, 2023, and vetting was subsequently conducted for the Adansi Asokwa, Fomena, and Mampong constituencies. Three aspirants are contesting in Adansi Asokwa, two in Fomena, and two in Mampong. The party has scheduled the primaries for these constituencies to take place on Saturday, September 2, 2023. North East Region: 60 year old Konjit Duut beaten to death after witchcraft accusation
Another life is lost in the North East Region over accusation of witchcraft. Passed a bill seeking to proscribe witchcraft accusations. The bill is currently awaiting presidential assent. However, despite this legislative effort, tragic incidents such as the recent death of Konjit Duut continue to highlight the urgent need for action to address the issue. According to the family of the deceased, Konjit Duut was brutally beaten to death by community members in Bunbuna, North East Region, after being accused of witchcraft. The allegation was based on a dream experienced by one of the community members, who claimed to have seen Duut attempting to harm him. The family stated that Duut was summoned for questioning by the community members regarding the accusation. While she was on her way to report the situation to her family in the next village, she was intercepted and attacked by some of the community members, resulting in her death. Local authorities have arrested one person in connection with the incident, but the family is demanding the arrest and prosecution of all individuals involved in the act. They have refused to bury Duut’s remains until their demand is met. This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the pervasive belief in witchcraft and the devastating consequences it can have on innocent lives. UER: Media Without Borders and Police receives massive solidarity from residents
Following the rots unraveled by Edward Adeti’s Media Without Borders, some group of young men and women within the Bolgatanga Municipality has organized what they called a “Peaceful Solidarity Walk” just to show application to Media Without Borders for its humanitarian investigative peace done especially in favor of the vulnerable in the region who are left to die because of no medication available at the drug store in most health facilities in the region. The arrests in the case of the alleged stolen medications from the Upper East Regional Hospital were made as a result of an intelligence-led operation conducted by the police in the region. This operation was carried out after Media Without Borders’ journalist Edward Adeti conducted lead investigative work on the matter. Edward Adeti’s investigation likely played a crucial role in uncovering information and evidence related to the alleged theft. Through his efforts, it is possible that he gathered important leads and conducted interviews or research that helped the police in their operation.
