E.T Mensah has passed @77

ET Mensah, a former Member of Parliament for the Ningo-Prampram constituency and Council of State member, has passed away at the age of 77. He succumbed to ill-health last night in South Africa. His death follows the recent passing of former First Lady Theresa Kufuor on October 1, 2023. Enoch Teye Mensah, commonly known as ET Mensah, served as a Minister for Education and was a Member of Parliament in Ghana from January 1997 to January 2017. Born on May 17, 1946, he was married and had seven children. During the PNDC military regime in Ghana, Mensah held the position of Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), similar to that of a Mayor. He joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC) when it was established in 1992. He successfully ran for the Ningo-Prampram constituency in 1996 and held the seat for the Constituency. After the NDC lost the 2000 elections, he continued as a member of parliament. Mensah lost the NDC primaries to Sam George on 21 November 2015. He once served as the Minority Chief Whip in parliament prior to the Ghanaian parliamentary election in 2008. In January 2009, he became the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament. At the beginning of the Fourth Republic, he was appointed Minister for Youth and Sports by President Jerry Rawlings. Mensah held that position through both terms of the Rawlings government. In January 2010, after a cabinet reshuffle, President John Atta Mills appointed him Minister for Employment and Social Welfare. Upper East GJA set to dismantle communication team of the two main political parties in a friendly game on Wednesday

The Upper East Regional branch of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) is yet to make huge sporting history in the region. The target for the friendly football game between the two mouthpieces of two main political parties is to show them good football skills by way of beating Peter Ayinbisa and Abdallah Salifu team both technically and tactically in the field of play. The friendly football match is organized ahead of its second edition of awards. The match will be played between the GJA and a combined team of communicators from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The match is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at the Bolgatanga Mobil Astroturf at 4 p.m. Both media practitioners and politicians will showcase their skills and tactics in this highly anticipated game. Upper East Region GJA leadership releases nomination list, says they are set for October 6 Awards

In a press statement, William Nlanjerbor Jalulah, the Upper East Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), announced that the 2nd Edition of the Upper East GJA awards will be held on October 6, 2023. Jalulah stated that the 3-member awards vetting committee has thoroughly and successfully reviewed all the works submitted by journalists in the region. Read full press statement below PRESSRELEASE October 1, 2023 UPPER EAST GJA TO HOST 2ND EDITION OF AWARDS ON OCTOBER 6, 2023 I am pleased to announce that all is set for the 2nd Edition of the Upper East Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards slated for October 6, 2023 at GNAT Hall in Bolgatanga. Time: 6:00PM. On the night of the ceremony, a total of nineteen (19) award categories will be won. Seventeen (17) of those awards will go to ten (10) deserving individual journalists while two (2) will go to two (2) radio stations. There will also be five honorary awards. It will be recalled that on July 27, 2023, the Upper East GJA inaugurated a 3-member Awards Vetting Committee at the launch of the 2nd Edition of the Upper East GJA Awards in Bolgatanga. Prof. David Millar, Founder and President of Millar Open University was the Chairman of the committee while multiple GJA Award winner and lecturer at Bolgatanga Technical University, Mr. Samuel Akapule and Upper East Regional Director of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, Lawyer Jalaudeen Abdulai were members. The committee was tasked to receive and vet entries submitted by the applicants. The entries covered works done by journalists working in the Upper East Region from January 1 to December 31, 2022. After one month of rigorous vetting, the committee submitted its report to the Regional GJA Chairman. Based on the outcome and recommendations made by the committee, I write for, and on behalf of, the Upper East Regional Executive of the Ghana Journalists Association and the Awards Vetting Committee of the 2nd Upper East GJA Awards, to announce the nominees for the 2nd Upper East GJA Awards.
