The Nabdam Women Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Leticia Yamga has tasked the Upper East Regional Minister to focus on improving the regional unemployment rate by creating Job for the youth rather than having interest on sexual intercourse. The Minister, Stephen Yakubu, questioned the suitability of the policy for farming communities and suggested that it could threaten conjugal stability in those areas. I don’t know whether is because he is in the same party with Bawumia, He has Bawumia style of politics, anything that doesn’t depend on politics, he tries to bring in politics. I don’t know why he went to such a festival to address people and he was bringing in this 24hours economy over there”. “If you look at our young men these days, a lot of them have graduated from the University and other colleges and they are in the house, they don’t have job to do and ask me whether such young men they really have erection? Because when you looked at it, money is everything. If you don’t have money, there is nothing that will make you to have an erection. Treasury bills interest rates fall marginally – BoG
According to the Bank of Ghana, interest rates on the short-term end of the money market’s yield curve have generally tightened. In October 2023, the rates for the 91-day and 182-day Treasury bills slightly decreased to 29.40% and 31.37%, respectively, from 31.53% and 32.61% in October 2022. However, the rate for the 364-day instrument increased to 33.16% from 32.32% during the same period. The interbank weighted average rate, which represents the rate at which banks lend to each other, increased to align with the policy corridor. Governor Ernest Addison noted that the weighted average rate rose to 28.49% in October 2023 from 23.98% in October 2022, reflecting changes in the monetary policy rate and an increase in the Cash Reserve Ratio. This improvement in policy transmission led to a rise in the average lending rate of banks to 32.69% in October 2023, compared to 31.40% in the corresponding period of 2022. After the bill was successfully passed, Francis Xavier Sosu, who is the Member of Parliament for Madina and also a co-sponsor of the bill, expressed that the witches camps across the country will be ended. He further mentioned that the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection will take necessary steps to reintegrate the inmates of these camps back into society. To provide some context, a distressing event took place in 2020 when an elderly woman named Madam Akua Denteh was brutally attacked and killed in the Savanah region after being accused of practicing witchcraft. A video circulating on the internet depicted the deceased being subjected to physical violence, including slapping, kicking, and caning, in Kafaba near Salaga, which is situated in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region. Ghana has a total of six witch camps in the northern region, namely Bonyasi, Gambaga, Gnani, Kpatinga, Kukuo, and Naabuli. These camps accommodate around 1,000 women, with some of them having been established more than a century ago. Tragically, in July 2020, a 90-year-old woman named Akua Denteh was brutally lynched in the Kafaba community of the Savana region. This horrific act was carried out as a result of accusations of witchcraft. To address and prevent such assaults on alleged witches, a bill was introduced as an amendment to the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The bill, which received sponsorship from multiple Members of Parliament, was primarily championed by Francis Xavier Sosu, the Member of Parliament for Madina. Its aim is to discourage attacks on individuals accused of witchcraft, as well as prohibit individuals from practicing as witch doctors or witchfinders. However, the President’s Office has clarified that the bill was only presented to him on Monday, November 27, 2023, which coincided with the day the Speaker raised concerns about it. The bill, introduced by MP Francis Xavier Sosu as a private member’s bill, seeks to prevent assaults on individuals accused of witchcraft and prohibit the activities of witch doctors and witch-finders. Joseph Dindiok Kpemka named after one of the houses in Tempane SHS
During the recent 25th anniversary of the Tempane Senior High School, Hon. Joseph Dindiok Kpemka Esq was recognized and honored by the school authorities. This honor was bestowed upon him during the anniversary celebration which took place at the school premises. The theme for the anniversary was “Championing Academic Excellence in Tempane SHS: the role of Stakeholders”, and as a token of their appreciation for his generosity and continual support towards the development and growth of the school, the school chose to name one of the student houses after him. Prior to becoming a Member of Parliament in the Tempane Constituency, Hon. Kpemka had already left a significant impact through his various contributions.
