CENSODEV Empowering Women to Participate in Voter Registration Exercise
The Centre for Social Mobilization and Sustainable Development (CENSODEV), in collaboration with the International Republican Institute (IRI) and other partners, has organized a Town Hall meeting to mobilize more women to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise. Apexnewsgh reports The event, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under the Political Accountability Activity (POLA) Project, aims to increase women’s participation in the 2024 general elections, particularly in the regions of Ghana where the project is being implemented. According to Sanjage Braima, Executive Director of CENSODEV, the goal of the Town Hall meeting is to encourage more women to participate in the voter registration exercise, enabling them to vote in the December 7 election. He emphasized that women’s empowerment and climate change are closely linked, and it’s essential to address how climate change affects women. Centre for Social Mobilization and Sustainable Development (CENSODEV) brought together key stakeholders in the electoral process, including the Regional Deputy Director of the Electoral Commission, Mr. Walanyo Mensah, and the Deputy Regional NCCE Director, Mr. Augustine Akugri. Representatives from other Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) were also present to outline their roles and mandates in ensuring the success of the electoral process. The event also serves as an opportunity to raise awareness among women about the ongoing voter registration exercise, as many participants revealed they were unaware of it due to low publicity by the Electoral Commission. CENSODEV, with the support of its partners, is working towards mobilizing women to increase their participation in the 2024 general elections across the country, particularly in the targeted regions of Ghana. However, political party women from both NDC and NPP, Artisanal groups and market women who were present at the program expressed satisfaction to the organizers for their effort in making sure women voices are heard in the governance circle. A united coalition of concerned youth, community members, parents, educators, and students in the Tempane District of the Upper East Region is calling for the immediate removal of the Tempane District Director of Education, Mr. Tee Rashid Anaffu, and some of his officers due to serious allegations of misconduct and ineffective leadership. The coalition has threatened to hold a protest on May 29, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in front of the District Education Office if their demands are not met. This move follows a series of disturbing revelations about Mr. Anaffu’s tenure over the past three years, which have severely undermined the quality of education and the overall trust in the district’s leadership.
