IGP George Akuffo Dampare has expressed his distress over the allegations made in the leaked audio saga and subsequent developments, acknowledging the pain caused to his family and loved ones.
COP Mensah, former Director-General (Technical) of the Ghana Police Service, had earlier cited low morale within the police force, attributing it to discontent with the management style of the IGP. He also labeled the IGP as the worst in Ghana’s history. However, COP Mensah denied any intentions of plotting against the IGP.
Appearing before a parliamentary committee of inquiry on September 12, IGP Dampare addressed the allegations and their impact on him, his family, and the police force. He emphasized that these baseless allegations have caused immense pain to him, his wife, children, command, leadership team, and the thousands of officers who recognize his efforts in transforming the organization into the country’s finest institution.
The parliamentary committee is currently investigating a leaked audio recording featuring discussions about the possible removal of the IGP by COP George Mensah, other colleagues and the former Northern Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
