Naaba Musah Akanbonga, the Ashanti regional President for the Council of Zongo Chiefs, has urged Ghanaians to consider electing a Muslim candidate in the upcoming 2024 general election to see how they would govern the country.
He pointed out that despite Muslims holding the Vice-President position, no Muslim has been elected President since independence. Naaba Akanbonga specifically mentioned Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, the Vice-President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), as a capable candidate to manage the country.

He also expressed hope that Dr Bawumia would select a Christian as his running mate to maintain religious balance in leadership. Naaba Akanbonga believes that the majority Christian population will support Dr Bawumia’s candidacy and vote for him to become President alongside a Christian Vice-President, in order to ensure representation of both faiths at the Jubilee House.
