The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to hold emergency meetings of its National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council (NC) on Thursday, July 4, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra. Apexnewsgh reports
The meetings come at a crucial time, as the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has nominated Energy Minister and Manhyia lawmaker Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh as his running mate for the 2024 general elections.
While the agenda for the meetings remains unclear, the timing suggests that the party may be convening to discuss and potentially ratify Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s nomination. According to Henry Nana Boakye, National Organiser of the NPP, Dr. Bawumia formally informed national officers of the party about his running mate selection on July 1.
The nomination has already been presented to the majority caucus of Parliament, but awaits final approval from the National Council, the party’s highest decision-making body. The outcome of these emergency meetings may provide insight into the party’s direction and strategy heading into the 2024 general elections.
