Organised Labour has suspended its nationwide strike, which commenced on Monday, July 15, 2024, in response to the proposed sale of 60% of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) shares in four hotels. Apexnewsgh reports

The strike was called off following a letter from SSNIT, dated July 12, 2024, confirming the termination of the intended sale of its stake in the hotels to Rock City Hotel, owned by Bryan Acheampong, the Agriculture Minister.

At an emergency meeting in Accra, Dr. Yaw Baah, Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress, announced the decision to end the strike and urged all workers to resume work on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.

Dr. Baah stated that Organised Labour has given SSNIT a one-month ultimatum to engage with them to address all outstanding issues related to pension management. He warned that they would “advise themselves” if SSNIT fails to meet this demand.

Dr. Baah expressed gratitude to all working people in Ghana and Organised Labour groups for their support during the strike. The strike’s suspension marks a temporary resolution to the dispute, with Organised Labour maintaining pressure on SSNIT to address their concerns.
