The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the filing fees for presidential and parliamentary candidates in the upcoming December 7 polls. EC Chair Jean Mensa disclosed the fees during a briefing to Parliament on preparations for the elections. Apexnewsgh reports
PRESIDENTIAL AND PARLIAMENTARY FILING FEES
The filing fee for presidential candidates is set at GHS100,000, while parliamentary candidates will pay GHS10,000.
DISCOUNT FOR UNDERREPRESENTED GROUPS
To encourage greater participation from underrepresented groups, the EC will waive 25% of the filing fees for women and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).
NO NEW CONSTITUTIONAL INSTRUMENT
The EC has confirmed that no new Constitutional Instrument (C.I.) will be laid before Parliament before the polls.
ELECTION DATE REMAINS UNCHANGED
The proposal to shift the election date to November has been deferred to 2028, ensuring that the Saturday, December 7, 2024, date remains unchanged.
ENHANCING VOTING INTEGRITY
To enhance the integrity of the voting process, the EC Chair confirmed the use of indelible ink for the upcoming elections.
The EC’s announcements provide clarity on the filing fees and other important details for the upcoming polls, ensuring a smooth and transparent electoral process.
