In the Bongo district of the Upper East Region, Mr. Aberinga Nsobila Tahiru, the NDC constituency chairman, has narrated that after receiving a call from the District Chief Executive (DCE) about a potential disruption at the district assembly store, with claims that some NDC youth have locked the assembly store, he quickly put a call across to investigate the situation. Apexnewsgh reports
But to his surprise, the disturbance arose from a truck carrying 1,000 bags of fertilizer headed to Bongo. Sensing the urgency of the matter, the NDC youth swiftly intercepted the vehicle. According to Mr. Tahiru, their goal was clear: to prevent the diversion of these essential resources, ensuring they reached the farmers who desperately needed them in the Bongo district.
As Mr. Tahiru delved deeper, he learned that the shipment had been divided between two districts—500 bags were meant for Bongo, while the other half was allocated for Binduri. Acting with transparency and a sense of duty, he instructed his team to offload the 500 bags intended for Bongo into the assembly store, ensuring that they would reach the farmers who desperately needed them. The remainder was returned to Binduri, all the while dispelling circulating rumors that the NDC youth had locked the assembly.
According to him, this proactive approach not only safeguarded essential agricultural resources but also aligned with government initiatives like the “Planting for Food and Jobs” program, aimed at enhancing the agricultural sector in the region. By taking decisive action, Mr. Tahiru ensured that the fertilizers would be utilized effectively, promoting the agricultural development of the local community.
Meanwhile, Bongo DCE Madam Atanga reflected on the contentious atmosphere that had arisen between the assembly and the group of NDC youth. She noted that she hadn’t been present at the assembly when the situation started, but was informed that the youth had taken the drastic step of locking the stores.
The shipment of 1000 bags of organic fertilizer had arrived, with plans for a balanced distribution of 500 bags each for both Bongo and Binduri. However, after offloading the Bongo allocation, the NDC youth had secured the remaining stores with padlocks, escalating further tensions.
Madam Rita said matters intensified when the youth insisted on offloading all 1000 bags, going against the truck driver’s refusal. In an effort to calm the situation, Madam Atanga said she chose to avoid police, regional Minister’s involvement and instead reached out to Mr. Tahiru for his intervention. It was during this exchange that the chairman brought up allegations of NPP youth looting the assembly stores the previous night—claims that Madam Atanga firmly dismissed, stating that no such incidents had occurred.
The DCE whiles speaking to ApexNewsGh on Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction; She revealed the assembly has received some furniture consignment but unfortunately, cannot have access to the assembly stores because it was locked under key by the NDC youth.
