The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tetteh Yohunu, has ordered the arrest and detention of four police officers who dared to apprehend a judge during a routine traffic stop. Apexnewsgh reports
The officers in question, Inspector Godwin Dey, Inspector Francis Adjei, Sergeant Daasebre Oti Boateng, and Corporal Jonah Adjubulisah, were conducting their duties in December 2024 when they stopped a vehicle driven by Her Honour, Mrs. Angela Attachi. Initially, the situation escalated when the officers attempted to pull her over for careless driving. However, she refused to comply, opting instead to drive off. Not one to back down easily, the officers pursued her until she was ultimately blocked by another vehicle.
In an unexpected twist, Mrs. Attachi then parked her car in the middle of the road and left the scene in a different vehicle. Following this incident, the officers took their concerns to the Adenta Police station, seeking to press charges. Yet, before they could proceed, intervention came from the Adenta Police Commander and other senior officials, citing her esteemed position. The case was swiftly abandoned.
Fast forward to last week when the officers were summoned to the CID headquarters to provide statements regarding the traffic incident involving the judge. What was initially an opportunity for them to clarify their actions soon turned sour. The officers learned that they were being detained, a move many saw as a clear show of power from the upper echelons of the police force.
“One of the officers spoke on condition of anonymity, revealing the tense situation, “When we tried to stop her after the careless driving, she refused to stop and drove off, so we followed the car until she was blocked by another vehicle. She then parked the car in the middle of the road and left in another vehicle.”
The unofficial statement bolsters the perception that the officers were simply executing their duties, only to find themselves at odds with a system that seems to protect its own. Now, as they sit in detention, the officers have received word that only the Inspector-General of Police can authorize their release, highlighting the precarious nature of their position and the chilling reality of power dynamics within the police force.
In a landscape where road indiscipline once prevailed, the questions linger: Who truly enforces the laws, and at what cost?
