The Press statement released by the office of the First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo has shown her readiness the to refund all allowance received from 2017 to date.
Per the public discourse on the recommendation by the presidential committee on emoluments for Article 71 office-holders (January 2017 to December 2020), that first and second ladies be paid salaries under benefits paid to Ghanaian presidents and vice-presidents, the sitting First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, and Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, have shown sign of rejecting the said recommendation following the public negative impression created across the country.
In the statement released the First Lady made it clear that payment of such allowance existed and was made to previous First Lady Lordina Mahama.
