British High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, sounded a warning bell about the potential consequences of a violent election in Ghana. Apexnewsgh reports

Speaking at the King’s Birthday celebration in Accra on November 7, she emphasized that an election without peace would be incredibly damaging for the country. Thompson’s concerns stem from interactions with key stakeholders and various individuals who fear that the December 7 elections may not be as peaceful as previous ones.

Ghana has a history of relatively peaceful elections, but Thompson noted that some Ghanaians worry about potential violence this time around.

“Unfortunately, my colleagues and I are frequently told by a range of people that they fear Ghana’s 2024 elections will be less peaceful than previous elections,” she stated. Thompson’s message was clear: an unpeaceful election would not only harm Ghana’s reputation but also put individuals directly involved at risk.

However, Thompson also offered a glimmer of hope. She emphasized that politicians and influential individuals have the power to prevent chaos from unfolding. “The good thing is that politicians and others in influential positions can prevent this from happening,” she said.

As Ghana prepares to head to the polls on December 7 to elect a president and Members of Parliament, Thompson’s words serve as a timely reminder of the importance of maintaining peace and stability.

The upcoming elections will determine the country’s leadership for the next four years, starting January 7.
