The Upper East Regional Communications Director of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Ayinbisa has said, that the ethnic political pronouncement made by the NPP presidential hopeful Hon. Kennedy Agyapong simply means that, he has a problem with northerners, means he doesn’t want northerners to progress, it means he doesn’t want northerners to occupy any other position than running mates and miniature positions. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Apexnewsgh.com on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, Mr. Ayinbisa explained that they have sighted videos and audios making rounds purportedly authored by Hon. Kennedy Agyapong a presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party.

He said, that in those videos, Hon Agyapong is seen to have been making some comments about northern Ghana, and in one of the videos, he said that the “NDC has elected John Mahama as a northerner for their party for the 2024 elections. So, NPP also elects Bawumia as a presidential candidate for the NPP, it will mean that Ghana will be governed by northerners and that electorates should be careful not to vote for Bawumia. Because that will mean that if we like it or yes a northerner is going to be the next president for 2025 either NPP northerner or NDC northerner”.

According to the Regional Director, his comment clearly means that “Hon. Kennedy Agyapong has a problem with northerners, it means he doesn’t want northerners to progress, it means he doesn’t want northerners to occupy any other position than running mates and miniature positions”.

“I feel that northerners are more than qualified whether they are NDC or NPP. We have more qualified people from the 5 northern regions that can become president. So, why is he playing that ethnic card? He wants to use that to incite northerners against our counterparts in the south and that is my problem”.

Mr. Ayinbsa said, he strongly believes that politics has to do with the mindset, “Wherever you come from, wherever your location is, you can rise and become the president of the Republic of Ghana irrespective of where your location is, geographical location has nothing to do with your ability to occupy the number one gentleman position of the land”.

“So, Kennedy is trying to undermine northerners and for me, that is unfortunate and it should not have come from somebody who is seeking to occupy the high office of the president, trying to undermine his fellow Ghanaians”.

“We have people from the north who have excelled, who have done well in the various successes of the economy. We have Aliu Mahama who has performed creditably well as a vice president, and John Dramani Mahama who is a northerner who has also done quite well as President, we have several northerners that I cannot even mention. The Atubugas, the Amalibas, the Ayines the Robert Ajenes who has been a regional director of Education, and a whole lot of others I can’t mention. So, why do you want to undermine northerners at this time?

Speaking about Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Mr. Ayinbisa maintained that the current Vice President Dr. Bawumia has done very well in his field. He further described him as a great man who was discovered around 2000 and since then, he has helped NPP to come to power.

“Everybody knows that if not for Bawumia NPP wouldn’t have won the 2016 elections. People can disagree with me but that is the position many of us hold” he stressed.

So, for the Kennedy Agyapong to come and make such comment, I feel very bad, I feel uncomfortable for somebody who is seeking to occupy high office will be making those comments” Ayinbisa told Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen of Apexnewsgh
