The Ghana Police Service has granted permission to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to hold a nationwide demonstration against the Electoral Commission (EC) on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Apexnewsgh reports

The protest aims to pressure the EC to conduct a forensic audit of the voter register ahead of the December elections.

NDC General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, announced the approval after a meeting with the Accra Regional Police Command at the EC headquarters. The demonstration will take place simultaneously in all regions, with the Accra route starting at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, proceeding through Farisco Traffic Light, TUC, Ministry, and culminating in front of the EC premises.

Kwetey emphasized the significance of the demonstration, stating that it transcends partisan interests and is crucial for ensuring a credible and trustworthy voter register. He argued that a forensic audit is necessary for transparency and urged the EC to open its doors for scrutiny.

The NDC’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, had earlier stated that the demonstration is a response to the EC’s refusal to commission a forensic audit, which has raised suspicions and necessitated the protest.

The NDC is determined to push for transparency and credibility in the electoral process.
