The Accra High Court has stepped in to temporarily halt the strike by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), granting a 10-day injunction in response to an urgent application by the National Labour Commission (NLC). Apexnewsgh reports
This move comes amid a heated dispute between CLOGSAG and the government over delayed salary restructuring, which was supposed to be finalized by October 31.
CLOGSAG had announced the strike due to the government’s failure to meet the deadline, citing frustration over the lack of a concrete offer despite multiple meetings.
However, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) countered that CLOGSAG had not formally responded to a new salary proposal provided weeks ago.
The strike was called off due to the prolonged delay in finalizing a salary structure expected to take effect in January 2025. The High Court’s decision has temporarily suspended the strike, stating that the application is granted for 10 days, after which the NLC will need to return to court on notice.
This development highlights the ongoing tensions between CLOGSAG and the government. With the strike on hold, both parties will likely engage in further negotiations to resolve the salary restructuring issue.
The outcome of these talks will be crucial in determining the next course of action for CLOGSAG’s members.
