He highlighted the importance of utilizing the one-year mandatory national service period in Ghana for the development of valuable skill sets. He emphasized the need for public and private sector leaders to create an environment that allows National Service Personnel (NSP) to enhance their skills, rather than allocating them to menial tasks.

During his speech at the 50th Anniversary of the National Service Scheme (NSS) in Accra, Speaker Bagbin urged institutions to refrain from treating NSPs as mere messengers and provide them with opportunities for skill development. This approach would ensure that the NSPs can contribute more effectively to the development of the nation.

Bagbin emphasized the significance of making the national service period meaningful by providing NSPs with proper training and exposure to relevant tasks and projects. He encouraged organizations to prioritize skill enhancement during this period, as it would not only benefit the NSPs but also contribute to the overall growth and development of Ghana.

“Please don’t be sending them to buy you Kofi brokeman, is a very critical year for their development don’t waste it. Many of them don’t even have a place to sit and they loiter around, and people treat them with contempt,” he stressed.

He emphasized the significance of using this year to empower NSPs (National Service Personnel) with the essential skills to effectively compete in the modern global community.

“These individuals are precious and have been entrusted to you. The one-year period is meant for you to shape them. We are now in a highly competitive global village,” he remarked.

Speaker Bagbin encouraged organizations to acknowledge the worth of NSPs and the potential they bring to the workforce. He urged them to offer opportunities for skill enhancement and personal growth during the national service period.
