New APC Deputy Chairman Hits the Ground Running, Appoints Diaspora Medical Leader as Special Adviser

In a bold move signaling his commitment to inclusive leadership, the newly elected All Progressives Congress (APC) National Deputy Chairman for the South, Dr. Benjamin Nwoye, has announced his first major appointment—tapping a prominent Diaspora leader to bridge the gap between the party and Nigerians abroad. Dr. Nwoye has named Dr. Kingsman Obinna Chikelu, a medical doctor and Managing Director of Diaspora Hospital Abuja, as his Special Adviser on Diaspora and Medical Affairs. The appointment, made public on Monday, March 30, 2026, comes just days after Dr. Nwoye’s emergence at the party’s National Convention, where he took over from Chief Emma Eneukwu. Dr. Chikelu is no stranger to Diaspora leadership. A respected medical practitioner, he previously served as Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) Worldwide. His background spans Diaspora mobilization, international relations, and healthcare advocacy—qualities his new principal believes will be instrumental in advancing the party’s vision. According to sources close to the Deputy National Chairman’s office, the appointment is strategic. The goal, they explained, is to harness the skills, expertise, and vast networks of Nigerians living abroad to support the APC’s development agenda while also strengthening the party’s health and welfare initiatives. “This appointment reflects our commitment to inclusivity and tapping into the vast resources and expertise of our brothers and sisters in the Diaspora,” Dr. Nwoye said, expressing confidence in Dr. Chikelu’s ability to deliver. In his acceptance, Dr. Kingsman Obinna Chikelu pledged to work diligently to mobilize Diaspora support for the party and contribute meaningfully to its medical and welfare programmes. Party stakeholders have welcomed the move, describing it as a timely signal that Dr. Nwoye is ready to hit the ground running in his new leadership role. Source: Apexnewsgh.com

Some opposition party Youth organizers accept the use of Ghana Card for registration

Some Party Youth Organizers who called themselves as Coalition of National Youth Organizers, which includes the National Youth Organizers of the PPP, GCPP, CPP, APC and the PNC has permitted the Electoral Commission (EC) decision to use Ghana Card as a form of identification for the upcoming registration of eligible voters. Statement from the Coalition said: “We the Coalition of National Youth Organizers support the Electoral commission’s decision to accept the Ghana card in that exercise,” The EC has earlier hinted plans to accept the Ghana Card as proof of citizenship when it embarks on the limited registration of eligible voters who have attained the age of 18 and those who were unable to vote during the 2021 registration exercise. The Coalition noted that: “there has not been much debate on the issue of age or the Sanity of registrants over the years, however, the problem has always been the status of the person’s citizenship. “From our checks, over the years, the majority of the challenges that has characterised the electoral registration process by the electoral commission have been to question the citizenship status of the challenged person.” It further noted that: “This has led to the beefing up of our borders with extra Ghanaian security forces every time the electoral commission decides to embark on electoral registration for the fear of non-Ghanaian citizens coming into our country to register as voters. The reason being that, although article 6, to article 10 clearly states who a Ghanaian is, the Ghanaian does not have a valid and acceptable National Identification or document to prove their claim of citizenship. “This has always led to confrontations, tensions and sometimes violence at the registration centers because of the suspicion that foreigners are being registered. This, the credibility of Ghana’s voters register has always been doubted depending on who is in power under the 4th Republic between the NPP and the NDC since 1995.” The coalition indicated that: “We have witnessed countless D-day election violence and post-election violence in Ghana since the beginning of the 4th Republic which is a dent on our image as a democratic country, and most of the cause of the violence has always been the suspicion of non-residents or non-citizens attempting to vote or having voted already.” It continued that it has “taken this position because we believe in our democracy and hope that the post elections litigations and violence that characterise our electoral processes can end when we all resolved that every election conducted in Ghana and the results declared are indeed the will and the decision of Ghanaians. “In that regard, let us be mindful that the electoral commission of Ghana is a strong Pillar if not the last barricade which is safeguarding the democratic path we have chosen as our system of government.” The Coalition also called on politicians, “especially the NPP and the NDC” to “stop interfering in” the work of the EC and stop trying to “wear them our political colours, like we did with Dr Afari Gyan, Madam Charlotte Osei and Now Madam Jean Mensah.” Apexnewsgh.com

This is in the addition to the failure to protect lives and properties of Nigerians which should be their primary responsibility. The country is also in shatters.” The actor also said he resigned his membership in the interest of equity, justice, fairness and peaceful co-existence among Nigerians. It would be recalled that Sen. Electoral Materials Arrives Upper Region As Agents Of Political Parties Battle For Safety Location

Confusion erupted between political party agents in the Upper East Regional capital Bolgatanga on Friday, November 2020, upon the arrival of electoral materials for the December 7 elections. The misunderstanding came as a result of where to keep the electoral materials for safety ahead of the December 7 elections. But unfortunately, the party agents, especially agents of the two main political parties NDC / NPP and the Police all share different views on where the electoral materials will be kept for safety. Sadly, shortly after the electoral materials were brought into the Regional at the Regional Police Headquarters, party representatives of the various political parties were seen uncomfortable as they started registering displeasure following where the electoral material will be kept for safety ahead of the Parliamentary and Presidential December elections. Meanwhile earlier on, the police proposed a certain location but unfortunately, the opposition NDC were not in agreement as they rejected the proposal insisting that the electoral material should be kept at the usual place inside a room by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) building for sleeping dogs to lie, and that proposal by the opposition NDC was accepted by all the stakeholders. However, after the agreement by all stakeholders, they all examined the electoral materials which enable them to take a record of the serial numbers printed on the ballot papers Some election observers from the European Union (EU) were present to witness the event. Splitting of Some centers have created about 5,000 plus centers- Dr. Serebour Quarcoe

The Director of Electoral Service, Dr. Serebour Quarcoe at the Electoral Commission (EC) has disclosed in an interview with Citi News which was monitored by Apexnewsgh.com that the commission wants to reduce the queuing at the polling stations. According to Dr. Quarcoe, the Commission had decided to put the threshold at 749. He said any center that is more than that will be split. “…so, there are some centers that have been split into five. Some are four, three, and two. The splitting has created about 5,000 plus centers. So, there are no new centers. The splitting is around the whole country but mostly in areas that are densely populated,” he stated. However, the newly added polls have seen the number of polling stations ballooned to 38,000 polling stations across the country. Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Commission, Jean Mensa has assured Parliament that her outfit is 95 percent ready for the successful, credible, fair, and peaceful conduct of the election on December 7, 2020. 32,621 names on the voter register do not represent unique individuals- EC Chair

Madam Jean Mensa has clarified that the 32,621 names on the voter register do not represent unique individuals who have found their names onto the register but rather the number of times multiple registrations or a breach occurred.
