Political Party wise, NDC ‘must’ be blamed for Upper East Underdevelopment–Aziz Adam Kobilla

Aziz Adam Kobilla a member of the Regional Communication Team of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region has said, when it comes to political party wise, NDC must carry the blame for the Upper East Region Underdevelopment. Speaking with Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen on Apexnews Ghana’s Facebook Live flagship programme dubbed “SPEAK OUT UPPER EAST” on Monday, October 4, 2022, Mr. Aziz Kobilla said, the people of Upper East have given all the opportunities to the NDC. According to Mr. Aziz Kobilla, “It is obvious the people of Upper East trusted the NDC for the past years and they have given the NDC the opportunity. That is the evidence with the number of Members of parliaments we have representing us as the people of Upper East Region and you could observe that from 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 2016, and now. If you look at now that am talking to you, the NPP, the party that I belong has only one Parliamentary candidate and that tells you that we are still struggling to get support from the people of the Upper East Region, we are still struggling to convinced the people of Upper East Region to come to the NPP side”. he stated He went on to say that, “Now that the Upper East has given all the opportunities to the NDC, you would ask yourself with regards to the roads are they okay? NO. With regards to health are they okay? NO. With regards to Education are they okay? NO. So, what is actually the problem? The people we have been sending to Accra (parliament) close to the seat of government to fetch for us…. Let’s put NDC –NPP aside, when they go, what do they bring for us? Do they really tell the people that Upper East needs roads? Do they tell the people that Upper East youth need jobs? Do they tell them that our education needs to improve in our infrastructure? Do they tell them the health situation in the region is deploring? Do they tell them we need an airstrip? “Then, if you want to come a little into politics, you would realize that the NDC in the region has not done us any good. Because when you look at the entire region, we have 15 seats, and out of these 15 seats, NPP only has the Binduri seat. There are even seats in this region that no political party has ever won except the NDC. You can talk of the likes of Bongo, you can talk of the likes of Garu, no political party ever won any of these two but the NDC consistently wins”. “Look at one interesting that is happening before 2016, all the seat around the Bawku area was occupied by the NDC and we the youth was crying for the Bolga-Bawku road for many years. Those were the times Prof. Mills of blessed memory deceived by his own ministers carried along to come and cut sod with any proper funding. So, when he cut the sod, the road was not constructed, they were times even John Mahama himself made a promise that he would construct the road and that was even after the death of Prof. Mills. Then, he came and cut the sod and in fact, he even used a helicopter to come and cut the sod at Tilli close to Zebilla, we did not hear anything. I am just giving hard facts about how the NDC has not treated the people properly and they have taken us for granted. After cutting the sod, he left for several years, until he saw people were angry about what is happening in the Past years. Then around September 2016, he came around again to cut sod and that one too, there was no any proper funding” “We have been able to discover today that our politicians are forthcoming, we can’t throw the politicians away because they are the reason why we are underdeveloped because they had the opportunity but they slept on their job. Permit me to use that word because they had the opportunity, they were close to the government, they were close to President but they slept over it and the topic has to do with whose to blame, and of course, I will not shy away from it, not because am NPP but the fact of the matter is that is the NDC. It is the NDC that should carry the blame, not because am NPP that am saying it. But like i have said, if you sit down and have a self-reflection on how consistently the people of Upper East have been loyal with regards to the evidence on elections, the people listened to the NDC more than any other political party in this region. And if we are underdeveloped, of course, is the NDC”. Bawku Conflict: Aziz Adam Kobilla appeals to Bawku youth to embrace peace

Aziz Adam Kobilla a member of the regional communication team of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region has added his peace of advice for the youth of Bawku to embrace peace following the ongoing conflict in the area. Speaking on Apexnews Ghana’s flagship programme dubbed “SPEAK OUT UPPER EAST” on Monday, October 4, 2022, Mr. Aziz Kobilla registered some amount of displeasure with the ongoing conflict in the area. He said: “I don’t think we the youth should carry arms against each other simply because somebody is saying am the legitimate chief and another person is saying am the legitimate chief” Mr. Aziz Kobilla, whose advice was targeted on the youth to bury their difference. “Let me use one last opportunity to plead with my people in Bawku to let peace prevail in the area. Mamprusis and Kusasis have lived together for many years and there has never been any issue. Even before the colonial era, there have not been a war in Bawku because Kusasis and Mamprusis were together, they were living in harmony, and they intermarry. So, I don’t know what devil has come into this. If elder 1 is fighting for chieftaincy, elder 2 is fighting for chieftaincy, I don’t think we the youth should carry arms against each other simply because somebody is saying am the legitimate chief and another person is saying am the legitimate chief. No, it has nothing to do with guns and I don’t think they are carrying the chieftaincy to our house No”. He stressed According to him, the youth who allowed themselves to continue to be used in fueling the conflict should know that there is no need of wasting any more lives. “We those who are been used to fuel this conflict, some of us are not even anywhere near close to chieftaincy or whatever. So, when you sit and reflect, you will it did not worth it for us to be wasting our lives the way they are doing”. “So, I want to call on the youth, because so far, is not the elders that are fighting with the guns, is the youth and for that matter, I want to beg on them, we need them, they are the future generation, we are the future generation. So, if we waste our lives, these our elders we don’t expect them to live for so long, it means we are wiping our entire generations off”. THE NDC HAS NO CASE; DON’T JOIN THEIR DEMONSTRATION-PART 1—Aziz Adam Kobilla

In 2016, the then EC chairperson and the returning officer of the 2016 presidential elections, Madam Charlotte Osei declared the outcome of the polls without four constituencies; Afram Plains North, Upper West Akim, Sawla Tuna Kalba and Tamale Central. These four constituencies have a combined voter population of 220,270. Madam Charlotte Osei declared the results of the two main parties as follows: Nana Akufo Addo (NPP)= 5,716,026 (53.85%) John Mahama (NDC)=4,713,277 ( 44.40%) This yielded a difference of 1,002,749 ( 9.45%) between the two main contenders. Madam Charlotte Osei explained that the votes of the four constituencies left out in the declaration is immaterial no matter their outcome to the Presidential polls hence the reason she went ahead to declare the results without them. The gazetted results ( NPP and NDC) for the 2016 presidential polls were later published as follows: Nana Akufo Addo (NPP)=5,773,299(53.6%) John Mahama (NDC)=4,800,737(44.6%) Difference =972,562. Fast forward, this year, the EC under a new boss and returning officer, Madam Jean Mensah declared H E President Nana Akufo Addo the winner of the 2020 presidential elections without Techiman South Constituency. The results declared for the two main contenders are as follows; Nana Akufo Addo( NPP)=6,730,413 (51.595%) John Mahama (NDC)=6,214,889(47.366%) With a difference of 515,524 between the winner and his closest contender. According to Madam Jean Mensah, Techiman South Constituency has a total voter population of 128,018 and so if all these votes were added to the votes of the second contender it cannot cancel out the excess votes ( 515,524) between the winner and his closest contender. She further stress that in as much as the percentages will alter if such a situation happens but the winner as she declared would have obtained 50.8% which is beyond the required percentage to triumph in any presidential election as posited by the constitution of the republic of Ghana hence the reason she went ahead with the declaration. It is important to note that this article sort to address two issues as being advanced by the leadership of the NDC that resulted in the incessant demonstration we are seeing on our streets on daily basis by supporters of the NDC. Point 1: the NDC argued that why will EC declare the 2020 presidential polls minus the Techiman South Constituency? This argument appears sensible but in actual sense it is deceptive. It is important to remind the NDC and ourselves that the 2016 presidential election was declared without FOUR CONSTITUENCIES as established above but it was accepted by all. Drawing from the above experiences, what the two EC bosses-cum-returning officers sort to educate us is that declaration of results can be done with some outstanding figures provided those figures outstanding cannot significantly alter the declared results. Mathematically, in the case of 2016 if all the 220,270 votes from the four constituencies that were outstanding were added to the votes of the second contender in this case John Mahama it wouldn’t have been enough to offset the over 1 million votes difference between Nana Akufo Addo and John Mahama. Moreover, Nana Akufo Addo percentage would have still remained above the over 50% + 1 votes. Similarly, if all the 128,018 votes from the Techiman South Constituency is added to John Mahama during the just ended 2020 polls it cannot cancel out the 515,524 votes difference between Nana Akufo Addo and John Mahama and Nana Akufo Addo will maintain a percentage higher than 50% +1 votes. This means waiting or not waiting for the outstanding results from the four constituencies and Techiman South Constituency as in the case of 2016 and 2020 respectively is of no significance to the declared results hence the decision to forgo them to avoid unnecessary delay and further heightened tension in the country. Just like myself, any Mathematics student understands this phenomenon adequately. If your Mathematics is defective don’t just follow, consult a selfless Mathematician for advice. This is a science and data issue. If we are to be guided by some electoral experience. It will suffice to say that the assumption to allocate all results coming from the outstanding constituencies in the case of both 2016 and 2020 to one presidential candidate is untenable and should be discouraged as it is nearly impossible to make such assumption. It is untenable because these outstanding figure represents the total registered voters in those constituencies and our electoral experience reminds us that: 1. No constituency has ever recorded 100% voter turnout. 2. No constituency has given all its valid votes to just one candidate. This further supported the decisions taken by the respective returning officers of both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections. Point 2: the NDC argued again that why did the EC declare the results with certain figures and gazetted the results with different figures? Again, this arguement is flawed because the EC did indicate before declaration that there are some figures yet to come from Techiman South Constituency. We were told this by the EC to bear in mind that the declared results is not final but reliable because the outstanding figures cannot vary the results significant enough to invalidate the declared results. Dear NDC supporters, your leaders are misleading you into doing the unthinkable don’t listen to them.
