Court dismisses Baarker-Vormawor’s 10m application

The High Court in Accra has rejected a request from Oliver Barker-Vormawor’s lawyers to dismiss a GHc10 million defamation lawsuit brought against him by National Security Minister Albert Kan Dapaah. The court, presided over by Justice Joseph Adu Agyemang, deemed the application procedurally incorrect and lacking in merit. Kan Dapaah had filed the suit on September 26, 2024, seeking damages and fees from Barker-Vormawor after he accused the minister and others of offering him money to cease his activism with the #FixTheCountry Movement. Dissatisfied with Barker-Vormawor’s allegations, Kan Dapaah pursued a defamation case against him. Kan Dapaah is seeking the following reliefs in his defamation suit: a. The defendant made defamatory statements without any basis whatsoever. b. The defendant showed complete recklessness by making defamatory statements without providing any evidence to support them. c. The plaintiff has never had any other meetings with the defendant besides the second meeting mentioned, whether alone or with others. d. Despite the plaintiff informing the defendant that the statements are false, the defendant has not offered any apology or retraction. It can be inferred that the defendant has failed to do so due to their indifference to the truth and their malicious and reckless behavior. We were offered money and appointments to stop organising protests – Barker-Vormawor

The convener of the #FixTheCountry Movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, claimed that the Akufo-Addo government, led by National Security Minister Albert Kan Dapaah, attempted to bribe him and offer him a position in order to cease his activism against the government. Apexnewsgh report After being detained by the police alongside other #OccupyJulorbiHouse protestors, Barker-Vormawor spoke to reporters on Friday, September 22, 2023, and revealed that they possess secret recordings of these meetings with Mr. Kan Dapaah, unbeknownst to the government. According to him, while he was in the UK, the National Security Minister called and invited him for a sit-down. The government offered to pay for his flight, in order to meet him in Ghana. He said this was something that was never disclosed to the public, “but we met at a safe house for us to stop our activism,” Mr Barker-Vormawor said. “This was way before we started the first #FixTheCountry demonstration,” he stressed. “We were offered not only money but appointments; and if we agreed to stop this, we were going to be free, but the most important thing was not to bring citizens onto the streets. “When we rejected that, Kan Dapaah, the National Security Minister, said to my face that if we decide to continue on this course of action, we will be arrested.” “We will be dealt with and that it will be over his dead body any demonstrations will happen. At the time we were even in Supreme Court at the time,” he said. “So, I was not surprised that I was ultimately arrested by the government and continue being charged for treason,” he said, adding: “For over two years now, the government has tried to prevent us from mobilising people.” Mr. Barker-Vormawor further urge anyone who fears for their safety to refrain from joining us. According to him, the preservation of our democracy should not require sacrificing lives. I do not support such a perspective. I firmly believe that those who have confidence in themselves and are driven by courage and conviction should take action. Even if it is only five people, we will still stand strong,” He stressed Source: Apexnewsgh.com/Ghana For publication please kindly contact us on 0256336062 or Email apexnewsgh@gmail.com

‘I know I’ll eventually be arrested and likely tortured’ … – Oliver Barker

The convener of Fix the Country Group Oliver Barker Vormawor has declared his readiness to face arrest as a result of his activism for good governance in Ghana.  In his article he added: “Now, if my movements are of any interest to you, for your arrest, then know this, on the 16th of this Month, I will be in Ghana. I will attending the Invitation of the Ambassador of Denmark to speak on a panel at the Danish Embassy”. Read his full article below: Now let me say this. As clear as i can be. If any single person thinks I do not know that the modus operandi of an illegitimate democracy is to arrest and torture activists, you must not have understood anything I have said or written so far. Our sense of urgency isn’t based on naïveté. We know what and who we are dealing with. We know who; and what we are dealing with, when we ask for more for ourselves and our families. So I say this as sincerely as I can be. And with all the honesty I can muster. I do not give a rats ass, what this Government does. In starting to speak up, I started to shed the fear of death, every passing day! “Cowards die many times before their deaths; The valiant never taste of death but once. Of all the wonders that I yet have heard. It seems to me most strange that men should fear; Seeing that death, a necessary end, Will come when it will come.” Now, if my movements are of any interest to you, for your arrest, then know this, On the 16th of this Month, I will be in Ghana. I will attending the Invitation of the Ambassador of Denmark to speak on a panel at the Danish Embassy. Then the next day on the 17th, I will be giving a speech to the Deputy Ambassadors of all the European Embassies in Ghana. I will speak on State violence and the Deterioration of the Rule of Law in Ghana. I will break the culture of silence again! Arrest me when I come! Ideas never die! The quest for freedom is eternal. We have sown an idea and it will grow as ideas do. Now, to those whose sense of justice and fairness has been awakened by my voice. Hear this. If I am ever arrested by the regime security or their affiliates, I beg this of you. Do not trend any hashtags, calling for them to release me. To do that will be legitimizing their violence and their false justice system. Do not demand that I be released. I promise that I will not even demand that a writ of Habeas Corpus be filed for me. Do something else instead. Call for the end of the False Republic. Call for the end of a political system that has impoverished and made your lives meaningless. Call for the end of the Old Ghana. Because for the New Ghana to be built. The old one must first give way! God strike me if I accept NDC appointment – FixTheCountry convenor

Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the convener for the FixTheCountry Movement, a pressure group in Ghana that is seeking better governance has said the gods of the country should deal with him if he turned his back from the group to pursue an NDC agenda. According to Mr. Vormawor who was speaking on Obuasi-based Aseda FM on Tuesday monitored by Apexnewsgh.com, 11 January 2022, he said his decision to demand good governance stems from the fact that Ghanaians mostly suffer from the hands of politicians. However, responding to a question that some pressure groups that charted a similar path in the past ceased to exist after there was a change in government, Mr. Vormawor said his interest and intention is to see Ghanaians enjoy a better life. “FixTheCountry Movement is here to compel all governments to do what’s right and not only NPP”, he stressed.
