The convener of the #FixTheCountry Movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, claimed that the Akufo-Addo government, led by National Security Minister Albert Kan Dapaah, attempted to bribe him and offer him a position in order to cease his activism against the government. Apexnewsgh report

After being detained by the police alongside other #OccupyJulorbiHouse protestors, Barker-Vormawor spoke to reporters on Friday, September 22, 2023, and revealed that they possess secret recordings of these meetings with Mr. Kan Dapaah, unbeknownst to the government.

According to him, while he was in the UK, the National Security Minister called and invited him for a sit-down. The government offered to pay for his flight, in order to meet him in Ghana.

He said this was something that was never disclosed to the public, “but we met at a safe house for us to stop our activism,” Mr Barker-Vormawor said.

“This was way before we started the first #FixTheCountry demonstration,” he stressed.

“We were offered not only money but appointments; and if we agreed to stop this, we were going to be free, but the most important thing was not to bring citizens onto the streets.

“When we rejected that, Kan Dapaah, the National Security Minister, said to my face that if we decide to continue on this course of action, we will be arrested.”

“We will be dealt with and that it will be over his dead body any demonstrations will happen. At the time we were even in Supreme Court at the time,” he said.

“So, I was not surprised that I was ultimately arrested by the government and continue being charged for treason,” he said, adding: “For over two years now, the government has tried to prevent us from mobilising people.”

Mr. Barker-Vormawor further urge anyone who fears for their safety to refrain from joining us. According to him, the preservation of our democracy should not require sacrificing lives. I do not support such a perspective. I firmly believe that those who have confidence in themselves and are driven by courage and conviction should take action. Even if it is only five people, we will still stand strong,” He stressed
