Fuel prices: We vote in Ghana, not across the globe – Sam George claps back at Presidential Staffer

Samuel Nartey George, the Member of Parliament Ningo-Prampram was compelled to remind Presidential staffer Nana Hesse Ogyiri of the fact that elections held in the country are within the country’s territorial borders after the latter attempted to blame the increment in fuel prices on the world market. Nana Hesse Ogyiri in a Facebook post said “what is happening to fuel prices across the globe?” Sam George then commented “please we didn’t vote across the globe. We voted in Ghana. Let’s talk” The latest hike in fuel prices has generated conversation on social media with critics accusing the government of not doing much to alleviate the plight of Ghanaians. Some Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) earlier this week increased the prices of fuel at their respective pump stations. Viral photos indicate that Total has increased their prices of petrol and diesel to GH¢6.90. Chief Policy Analyst at Ghana Institute of Public Policy Options, Charles Wereko Brobbey has meanwhile advised the government to use the windfall from the oil revenue to cushion the price. “We’ve been told by the President that we’re a net exporter of oil now. That means that each time oil prices go above the baseline figure of $54 per barrel [that is used for our budgeting for revenue projections], the Government of Ghana is making a windfall from the price increase and as this goes on, we the consumers are suffering from the price increase because of the application of price formula. “So I think if the Government of Ghana wants to be a caring government, it should ensure that all the extra windfall profits which have come from $54 to $85 are applied to moderate the price increase,” he said. —Ghanaweb Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Minority opposes SIM cards re-registration Sam George

Minority opposes SIM cards re-registration

The minority in Parliament is making a case against the re-registration of all Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards as directed by the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization. The exercise, which started October 1, is in two phases; linking one’s Ghana Card to a SIM card and then physically visiting an agent of a service provider by a SIM card holder for an integration process to be completed. As part of the policy directive from the Ministry, failure to register one’s SIM within a six-month period could lead to one losing their phone numbers entirely. This means that one must have a Ghana Card to be able to register a SIM card. The Minority in Parliament finds this worrying. Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ningo Prampram Constituency and member of the Communications Committee of Parliament, Sam George, said the move is not justified. “In as much as we support any attempts to sanitize the digital ecosystem, we strongly oppose any abuse of policy to unnecessarily inconvenience the citizens of Ghana. We find it most inappropriate that the policy directive issues a fiat of deactivating SIM cards that are not linked to the Ghana Card within the next six months. This we believe is a retrospective application of legislation and a tunnel visioned approach to sanitizing the industry”, he said in a press conference. He said neither the law on the registration of SIM cards nor the law on Ghana Card makes it compulsory for the two to be linked. “The current legislation that backs SIM registration in Ghana is the LI 2006 passed by Parliament in 2011. This legislation saw the registration that happened in 2012. This Legislative instrument does not mandate the linkage of the Ghana Card to activate SIM cards. The National Identification Authority Act, 2006 (Act 707) and LI 2111 which introduces the use of the Ghana Card as the principal document for registration of SIM cards and Bank Accounts amongst others cannot be applied retrospectively to SIM cards that were registered legally and legitimately under the existing Ll 2006. Section 7 of LI 2111 makes the use of the Ghana Card mandatory but does NOT make it the sole card for the purposes of registration.” He said the Passports Office may, taking a cue from this exercise, in the future demand that all passports be “revalidated because a few holders may have falsified the birth certificates or other primary documents used to acquire their passports.” The minority insists it’s not pragmatic to demand that all SIM cards be re-registered because a few were registered “fraudulently” and that “the claim that linking a SIM card to the Ghana Card would prevent fraud is flawed”. They thus want among other things the immediate withdrawal of the threat of deactivation of valid SIM cards by March 2022 and the scrapping of the physical visit to an agent of a service provider to complete the process. —3news Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications. Someone should be fired if LGBT+ group can’t be closed down – Sam George

The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam George has called for the dismissal of some authorities who have not taken any action to close down the newly opened Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Intersex Rights (LGBT+) office in Ghana. According to the MP, government and ministries responsible must take swift action before the LGBT+ group become a functional lobbyist group capable of funding political parties to get their rights enacted into law. “This thing happened 6-days ago and none of the Ambassadors has been summoned by the Foreign Affairs to answer any question. If our Foreign Ministry and National Security is not aware of this after six days, someone must be fired,” the MP stated. He added, “You don’t seat down and let them fester and then become a functional lobbyist group in this country whereby they will start raising funds for political parties so that they start electing their members of parliament to effect a change of the law.” Sam George noted with examples that President Akufo-Addo has a great responsibility to continue from where his predecessors left by ensuring that LGBT+ still holds as a criminal offence. “Akufo-Addo’s position on the LGBT+ beholds him a higher responsibility to come out and then clamp down,” Sam George said on the Good Morning Ghana show on Metro TV. European Union (EU) on January 31, 2021, aided in the opening of a new office space for LGBT+ group in Accra, declaring its support for similar organisations. The group organized a fundraiser to help promote its activities in the country. The event which was attended by Australian High Commissioner, His Excellency Gregory Andrews, the Danish Ambassador, His Excellency Tom Nørring and some delegates from the EU have received a huge backlash from the Ghanaian community who frown on the operationalization of such a group. kindly pick forms the next time nominations are opened and contest, Sam George fired party members

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram constituency  Samuel Nartey George has admonished party members who he described their attitude as annoying and irritating to kindly pick forms the next time nominations are opened and contest to become an MP to enable them do the blow man things they are posting about. The Ningo- Prampram MP was responding to the pressure on social media by some of his Party members, asking the member of the NDC vetting committee to disqualify appointees by issuing threats. “What is most annoying is those who are making all the threats and casting insinuation have failed to provide a half page memorandum on why any of the people they are talking about should be disqualified. Disqualification is not based on emotional outbursts or your whims and caprices. It is based on HARD FACTS backed by EVIDENCE! And don’t tell me the evidence is there. You too you are a person, package it and send it to us as a Memorandum”. However, he advised those party with emotional outburst to pick nomination the next time nominations are open. “If you have a problem with that, kindly pick forms the next time nominations are opened and contest to become an MP and come and do the blow man things you are posting about”.  Below is the full Facebook post: Sam George to NDC Members 💥💥💥💥💥💥 See I had decided to keep quiet and not speak but the truth is I cannot hold it in anymore. It is annoying and irritating seeing the disparaging and demeaning commentary being propagated by members of the NDC against the Parliamentary Caucus of the Party reference the upcoming vetting process. The suggestion that we are a group of sell-outs who have no spine is insulting. All 137 of us in Parliament stood up to the excessive abuse of State Power by the Akufo-Addo regime and I the face of intimidation and threats won our Parliamentary seats for the Party. On the night of the 6th and 7th January, we again with unity of purpose put our lives at risk and successfully elected an NDC Speaker of Parliament. What more should the NDC MPs do before you our own recognise our sacrifice? Whatever inducement you think is being offered did not exist when we put Party first to elect a Speaker? Do you know the battles many members are having to fight today as a consequence of our actions on the night of the 7th January? What is most annoying is those who are making all the threats and casting insinuation have failed to provide a half page memorandum on why any of the people they are talking about should be disqualified. Disqualification is not based on emotional outbursts or your whims and caprices. It is based on HARD FACTS backed by EVIDENCE! And don’t tell me the evidence is there. You too you are a person, package it and send it to us as a Memorandum. I believe in the sense of caramaderie in the NDC Caucus. I believe in the integrity of our Members on the Appointments Committee. I trust our Leadership. We would act in the ultimate best interest of Party and Country. This involves putting tact, strategy and wisdom over emotions. If you have a problem with that, kindly pick forms the next time nominations are opened and contest to become an MP and come and do the blow man things you are posting about. Muntaka, Sam George and Jinapor should apologize for their regrettable conducts

Dr. John Osei Bobbie a political expert said, the Parliament Clerk must take a share of the blame for the disgrace the world witnessed in the chamber of Ghana parliament on January 6, 2021 midnight. According to Dr. Osei Bobbie, the clerk did not exhibit all the powers entrusted to him to ensure that law and order prevail in the house of parliament. He made the revelation during an exclusive interview with Apexnewsgh.com. “The clerk himself did not perform. He did not act accordingly, because you see, at that moment he was the man in authority. He had all the powers entrusted to him to ensure that law and order prevail in the house. Some incidents, some utterances that came up show that some people are really ignorant about the laws themselves yet they are there to enact laws for Ghanaians. The interpretation of some implementation of the injunction order. I look at the Constitution and I was so sad.” However, Dr. Osei Bobbie welcomed the apology rendered by Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah over his ballot snatching misconduct, insisting that Sam George, Muntaka, and John Jinapor should equally do the same. “If the national laws will not be applicable on the floor of the house then, the standing orders must apply accordingly. I will simply say that Carlos has gone to some length to acknowledge the fact that what he did was wrong, I am expecting the others to do the same Muntaka, Sam George, and Jinapor to do the same because they took us for granted. The ballot boxes that were booted symbolizes the nation Ghana”. ‘Furious’ Sam George charges at Gabby Otchere-Darko for predicting by-elections in 2021

Samuel Nartey George, the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram has taken on Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko over a publication he made on Facebook. Gabby Otchere-Darko catalogued a number of things which he claims to be prophecies that will come to pass in 2021. Point eight of Gabby’s twelve-point prophecy states that “there will be by-elections this year”. Sam George who is lawmaker on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress has a bone to pick with the legal practitioner over this comment of his. Sam George has questioned why a leading member of the ruling party will make such assertions. He listed the conditions precedent for a by-election to be held and wondered if Gabby is predicting that an MP will suffer any of the conditions. “I have just seen your so-called prophecies for 2021. I am shocked that even for someone like you, you stooped even lower than has come to be expected”. “Can you explain for the understanding of Ghanaians the number 8 in your list? You claim there will be by-elections this year. Not one! You used plural. Except for medical incapacitation, criminal conviction, voluntary resignation or death, I wonder how else we can have these by-elections”. Sam George charged the leadership to take up the issue and question Gabby as he doubts the National Bureau of Investigations (NBI) will act on it. “If this was a ‘regular’ citizen, the National Investigation Bureau (formerly BNI) and the Ghana Police Service would have invited or arrested them by now but you are the all-powerful Cousin to the President. I hope the leadership of the Parliament of Ghana takes this up seriously”. Ghanaweb Please contact Apexnewsgh.com on email apexnewsgh@gmail.com for your credible news publications.
