United States population tops 331 million and slowest growth since 1930s
The United States has a population topping 331 million, marking the country’s slowest growth rate since the 1930s and the second slowest ever, the U.S. Census Bureau announced on Monday. In total, the U.S. population rose to 331,449,281 in 2020, up by 7.4 percent compared to the growth between 2000 and 2010, according to the Census Bureau. Demographers said the United States may be entering an era of substantially lower population growth due to a number of reasons such as a leveling off of immigration, a declining birthrate, an aging population and the scars of the 2008 financial crisis forcing many Americans to delay marriage and starting families. Six states will gain more seats in Congress during the upcoming once-a-decade redistricting battles based on the new census results. Among them, Texas will add two seats while Colorado, Florida, Montana, North Carolina and Oregon will each gain one seat. California, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia will all lose congressional seats ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. The new allocation of congressional seats shows that political power in the country is shifting from states in the Midwest and Northeast to those in the South and West, local media said. Census officials said they were “very confident in the quality of the data” that they collected last year despite a once-a-century coronavirus pandemic, wildfires, hurricanes, as well as controversy over former President Donald Trump’s failed attempt to add a citizenship question to the census form. The Supreme Court eventually blocked Trump’s plan. However, questions about its accuracy will most likely surface when the Census Bureau releases detailed demographic files for each state later this year, according to local media reports. First Dogs Champ and Major Move Into White House
THE TWO NEWEST residents of the White House have moved in – the Bidens’ German shepherds arrived at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue on Sunday. Champ and Major, the first shelter dog to ever live in the White House, joined President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden over the weekend. .First lady Jill Biden’s press secretary Michael LaRosa told CNN that the first family wanted to settle into their new residence before bringing the dogs from Delaware. “Champ is enjoying his new dog bed by the fireplace, and Major loved running around on the South Lawn,” LaRosa said. Champ has been a member of the Biden family since December 2008 and Major was adopted in November 2018 from the Delaware Humane Association after they fostered the dog. The arrival of Champ and Major marks a return to a long tradition of dogs in the White House, which stopped with the Trump family, which did not have any pets. The Bidens’ dog may not be the only animals wandering the White House. The first lady has previously expressed interest in adopting a cat. In a video on Twitter responding to the public’s questions, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Sunday that she is “also wondering about the cat.” “I’m also wondering about the cat because the cat is going to dominate the internet whenever the cat is announced and wherever that cat is found,” Psaki said. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu is shamelessly dishonest –Clement Apak
Member of Parliament for Builsa South Constituency Dr. Clement Apak said the Majority Leader Mr, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has proven to be shamelessly dishonest for his pronouncement on the event that took place in the Parliament during the election of Speaker of Parliament. Meanwhile outlining the details on the night of the dissolution of the 7th Parliament in an exclusive interview with the media, the MP for Suame indicated that during the voting exercise to determine who was to be the leader of the House of Legislature, contrary to the reports, both candidates garnered 136 votes. He further explained that two of the votes were unaccounted for, while one got rejected because both candidates had been tainted. However, he said, that the former MP for Nadowli Kaleo, Alban Bagbin did not win the speakership race but upon dialogue both leadership of the house, concluded to give it the Mr. Alban Bagbin. However, Dr. Apak believes there is some level of dishonesty from the position of the Majority Leader. He further explained that the truth is that after many hours of standoffs because the NPP side he leads had refused as he instructed, to abide by the law dictated and practice driven protocol of secret voting or if you like, secret ballot, he and his team reluctantly agreed to do what is right. “Thereupon, we voted, all 275 of us. The ballot box was opened and the ballots sorted. There was one spoiled ballot after sorting in accordance to the number of Candidates: Prof. Mike Oquaye number 1 and Alban Sumana Bagbin number 2. The votes for Prof. Oquaye counted were 136.” “It was after this that we in the NDC started jubilating because the outcome was obvious, that our Father and nominee, Hon. Bagbin had won. Clearly with only one spoiled ballot, common maths showed that Bagbin obtained 138 votes. For those not good at maths, 275 minus 1+136=137. When 137 is subtracted from 275 the answer is 138.” He explained Here are the details: Folks, Kyei Mensah Bonsu has proven to be shamelessly dishonest. In anycase, not even my three-year-old son who sleeply watched the events of the early hours of January 7th, 2020 in the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana in relation to the election of a Speaker, his two deputies and the swearing in of MPs-elect, will believe this palpable lie Kyei has concocted. Truth is that after many hours of standoffs because the NPP side he leads had refused as he instructed, to abide by the law dictated and practice driven protocol of secret voting or if you like, secret ballot, he and his team reluctantly agreed to do what is right. Thereupon, we voted, all 275 of us. The ballot box was opened and the ballots sorted. There was one spoiled ballot after sorting in accordance to the number of Candidates: Prof. Mike Oquaye number 1 and Alban Sumana Bagbin number 2. The votes for Prof. Oquaye counted were 136. It was after this that we in the NDC started jubilating because the outcome was obvious, that our Father and nominee, Hon. Bagbin had won. Clearly with only one spoiled ballot, common maths showed that Bagbin obtained 138 votes. For those not good at maths, 275 minus 1+136=137. When 137 is subtracted from 275 the answer is 138. The same Kyei Mensah then had a short chat with Hon. Carlos Ahenkorah, and after Kyei Mensah pulled an NPP MP elect at the counting table, Carlos Ahenkorah snatched ballot papers from a Clarke and bolted. Carlos Ahenkorah was apprehended. Leadership then went into conclave and returned to confirm that Bagbin was indeed the Victor. And the process continued with the swearing-in of Speaker Bagbin. When MPS-ELECT got sworn in, the next was the approval of the 1st and 2nd deputy speakers of Parliament. For these positions we did not cast ballots, we agreed. Hon. Kyei Mensah Bonsu, the now minority leader, should stop being arrogant. Truly, if he and his team had a choice, will they make the Rt Hon. Alban Sumana Bagbin the Speaker of Parliament? Hon. Rt. Hon. Sumana Bagbin was duly elected as the Speaker of the 8th Parliament of the Republic of Ghana. This was in spite of all the plots, schemes and shenanigans of Mr. Akufo-Addo as deployed by his henchmen aftert a meeting on the night of January 6th and the early hours of January 7th. Kyei Mensah Bonsu was part of that meeting held at a well-known hotel. In fact a number of Akufo-Addo henchmen were spotted in Parliament, ostensibly to oversee the execution of their plots to ensure that Prof. Mike Oquaye was elected Speaker. The action of Hon. Carlos Ahenkorah was known by Kyei Mensah and was duly sanctioned by the cabal put in charge of ensuring that Prof. Mike Oquaye was elected Speaker. Mind you, as confirmed in the programme of the President Select on January 7th, Prof. Mike Oquaye was named as the Speaker of Parliament. So, the shameless claim that Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Bagbin was not elected is a feeble attempt to save face after all the plots and schemes by the cabal failed due to the determined effort of the NDC MPS-ELECT. I remain a citizen! Political Expert shared his views on Parliament ballot kicking and snatching drama Series…
A political Scientist Dr. John Osei Bobbie has condemned the ‘ballot kicking and snatching drama series’ performed by some of the country parliamentarians on January 6, 2021 midnight, as he expect leadership of the 8th parliament to take a critical look at the actions of individuals involved in such disgraceful acts and take critical decisions. Some Ghanaians were taken by surprise to see the MP for Tema West, Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah performing such critical drama role of snatching ballot papers from the hands of a Parliamentary official on Thursday morning. However, it was a strategy to disrupt the election process for the new Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Ahenkora, with Usain Bolt speed style, snatched some of the ballot papers on the blindside of the Parliamentary officials as the ballot was counted. However, his action has triggered a whole lot of controversy across the world since after his unbelievable performance. Political expert Dr. John Osei Bobbie who spoke to Apexnewsgh.com on the issue did not hide his impression on the matter. He believes, it is prudent leadership of parliament takes a critical look at the actions of the individuals involved in such disgraceful acts and take critical decisions on them. “Parliament has its own rules that governed the house, why do we have standing orders in parliament? The orders are needed to bring discipline, to bring law and order over there. So, if somebody had shot another person in parliament there, it means the person would have gone scout free. If for example, the incident has brought about troubles and there has been killing and shooting here and there, what would have happened to the nation Ghana? If their behavior has in sighted a military man to organize his friends to take up arms to take over the government, what would have happened? What would have been the result? Could we have blamed those people for bridging the constitution of Ghana? These are things we have to look at and take critical decisions on.” “The idea of thing happened in chambers, is neither here nor there, it is Ghana if I commit the offense and am to be punished, if my parliamentarian does same then he must be punished. So, the standing orders must be brought into play. They took the whole nation at ransom and that wasn’t the best. So, to me is a total disgrace to the nation of Ghana and parliamentarians must come out to apologize to all of us because what they did was simply bad and brought shame to this nation Ghana. Now is all over the world, people are watching, people are laughing at us”.
