In a recent radio engagement monitored by ApexnewsGh, the Upper East Regional Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), Georgina Ayamba, has tasked the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) provide evidence than making she described as ‘noise.’

“If the NDC is coming out with a concern, they should come out with facts and not just say something for people to see that you are talking. You may be talking sometimes and not knowing you are making noise without any meaningful sense”. She said

Madam Georgina was addressing the concerns raised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding caterers’ absence in schools since after the reopening of school in January 2024.

The NDC claimed that caterers have not resumed providing meals to children at basic schools since after the holiday period.

Georgina Ayamba even though do not agree with NDC, but she acknowledged that some caterers may have traveled outside their districts to celebrate Christmas, stating that in line of traveling accidents or other unforeseen circumstances could potentially occur during these trips. She emphasized that it might not the caterers’ intention to be absent from school and urged the NDC to provide specific cases if they existed.

To address the issue, Madam Ayamba stated that she would review the zonal coordinators’ reports to identify any schools where cooking activities had not resumed. As she had not received any reports of schools not cooking, she further emphasized that she needed concrete evidence to take appropriate action.

Meanwhile, in response to the NDC’s claims, the GSFP Coordinator criticized the NDC for making broad statements without providing facts. She urged the NDC to visit schools and gather evidence before making allegations. Furthermore, she accused the NDC of attempting to tarnish the reputation of the GSFP because they have realized that December 7 election is around the corner.

The NDC had attributed the absence of caterers to outstanding arrears owed to them by the government for three terms. They claimed that the government’s failure to meet its financial obligations was indicative of incompetence and mismanagement, which could potentially impact school attendance if not promptly addressed.

However, both the GSFP and the NDC have voiced their concerns on the issue, highlighting the importance of ensuring that children receive their meals as part of the school feeding program. It remains to be seen how the situation will be resolved and whether the government will take steps to address any outstanding arrears owed to the caterers.
