The Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive Mr. Asanga Rex has reminded the Deputy Minister for Transport that Upper East Region, is the only region without a regional airport in their regional capital.
Mr. Asanga drew the attention of the Deputy Minister for Transport Hon. Frederick Obeng Adom during a consultative forum on electric vehicle policy organized by the Ministries of Transport and Energy in the region.
“We are the only regional capital that does not have an airport. Maybe, it may not be directly under your ministry but I think it is our time and we can take it up”.
The construction of an Airport for the people of the Upper East Region, has for the past years become a mouthwatering promise from both NPP and NDC. Unfortunately, the people themselves enjoy it when politicians used it to campaign in every election season, and after the election, nothing happens.
During the tenure of the late Kofi Addah of blessed memories as Aviation Minister, an attempt was made but was unfortunately bedeviled with misunderstanding by the same people in dire need of the Regional Airport.
However, the region lost the opportunity over the dispute of where to cite the regional airport, and since then, no other update has been witnessed as a result.
Mr. Asanga was reminding the Deputy Minister for Transport of the importance of a regional airport following the delay they experience when they wanted to fly from WA to Tamale before coming for a meeting scheduled to start @9.00am in Bolga which was later shifted to 1:30 pm.
