JUSTIN UER: Dr. Bawumia challenged John Mahama to show his legacy in the Upper East Region

Vice President of the Republic of Ghana Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has challenged former President Mahama John Dramani Mahama to tell the people of Upper East and the north just one legacy of his northern development vehicle Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) after wasting $100million dollars of taxpayer’s money. According to Dr. Bawumia, the 2020 election is about records and former President Mahama’s monumental SADA failure offers him a zero record to compare with the massive and verifiable development record of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as far as northern development is concerned. He further questioned, why the people of the Upper East Region must sacrifice their votes to the former President John Mahama after giving him the opportunity as a northern brother and son and he didn’t deliver “…. the people of Upper East, I know you will recall that in 2008 John Mahama the former president came to this region, came to north and told that we should vote for him because he was our northern brother. Didn’t he say that? That we should vote for him because he was our northern brother, and by and large the north did vote for him, isn’t that the case?” He asked “….he went into the office for 8 years, for 8 years, he was in office as Vice President and President. Can the Upper East tell us, what exactly did Mahama do for the Upper East Region in 8 years? Where are the programmes, what legacy did John Mahama left in the Upper East Region after 8 years? The signature development project for the northern region was SADA. Upper East Region, what are the project SADA left behind, can you point to any project after $100 million dollars, where are the projects, of course, we know about the guineafowl that flow to Burkina Faso, they did not do any projects, they spent the money, you have money to come and help your people to eliminate the poverty of your people and you engage in projects of guineafowl flying to Burkina Faso, that is not development.” Dr. stressed that Akufo Addo’s vision, is a different vision and with Akufo Addo, you have him as your younger brother Dr. Bawumia as Vice President and they are delivering. “…. we have begun the biggest investment in infrastructure in Northern Ghana since independence which is the Pwalungu Dam. The Pwalungu multipurpose dam is the biggest and Nana Akufo Addo is beginning it. In John Mahama’s 8 years not even one road was completed in the whole of the Upper East Region, not one road. Today, we are virtually done with the Bolgatanga-Bawku road, but this is just less than 4 years, in 8 years they couldn’t do one project.” “…. is the same John Mahama want to come back to be President of the country after such a poor record development of the Upper East Region? Their record was a monumental failure of development and so we don’t want a return, we are a step forward already with Nana Akufo Addo let’s keep going forward.” The Vice President is in the Upper East Region for a 3-day campaign tour. UER: Sirigu Chief embraced Dr. Bawumia for government good policies

The Paramount Chief of Sirigu Traditional Area, Naba Roland Akwara Atogumdeya III, has expressed gratitude to the government for their wonderful social intervention policies such as Planting for Food and Jobs and free SHS which he said are transforming the lives of the people in the Sirigu community. However, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said that in less than 4 years, the NPP government has completed 688 out of a total of 1,488 developmental projects for the people of the Upper East Region. The Vice President made the revelation in Mirigu in the Kessena-Nankana West District when addressing a durbar of chiefs disclosed this while addressing a durbar of chiefs as part of his campaign tour in the Region Even though Dr. Bawumia did not throw more light on the specific projects and their whereabout, he stressed that if necessary, the projects could be pointed out at any time. “…so far in the Upper East Region alone, we are doing 1488 projects and we have completed 688 projects in 4 years.” However, the Vice President pronouncement is as a result of his initial comment he made when he last visited the Paramount Chief of Sirigu traditional area, where he stated that government under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo had performed more better in their 4-years than the entire 8-year rule of the opposition National Democratic Congress. He was confident that the NPP government was poised to deliver on its campaign promises; unlike the Mahama administration where guinea fowls fled to Burkina Faso. The paramount chief uses the opportunity to appeal to the government for a new constituency or district which will cater to the Eastern part of the existing Kassena-Nankana West District.
