Parliament outlines itinerary for dissolution, presidential inauguration
Ghana’s Parliament has announced its programmes leading to the dissolution of its seventh session to pave way for the inauguration of the eighth session on Thursday, January 7, 2021. The line up of activities also covers the inauguration and swearing-in of President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on the same day. A statement released by the Public Affairs Directorate of the house indicated that attendance to any of the programmes will strictly be by invitation due to COVID-19. The statement signed by Parliament’s Director of Public Affairs, Madam Kate Addo disclosed that President Akufo-Addo will be delivering the final State of the Nation Address on Tuesday, January 5, at 10 am to the House. The address will be followed by the dissolution of the current parliament at midnight, Wednesday, January 6, 2021. Following the expiration of the seventh Parliament of the Fourth Republic, elected Members of Parliament of the eighth session will convene in the Chamber to elect a Speaker and his deputies at 12:01 am on Thursday, January 7 after which they will be sworn-in. President Akufo-Addo will then be sworn-in as well on the same day in the House. “At 12:01am on 7th January, the Elected Members of the 8th Parliament will convene in the Chamber of Parliament to elect a Speaker and Two Deputy Speakers, in accordance with Articles 95, 96 and 100(2) of the 1992 Constitution, after which the elected Members of the 8th Parliament will be sworn in by the Speaker at the Chamber of Parliament as per Article 100(1) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana. The President-elect will then be sworn in before the 8th Parliament in accordance with Article 57(3) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana,” the statement added. It further stated that the media and the public are to note that attendance of these events are strictly by invitation and All COVID-19 safety and prevention protocols will be strictly adhered to. Results declared by the Electoral Commission (EC) indicates that the 8th Parliament will see both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) having 137 seats each with an independent candidate. With 275 constituencies existing in Ghana, a party needs at least 138 seats in Parliament to form a clear Majority. This means the country will run a hung Parliament for the first time in its history. Various comments have been made about the development with some political commentators expressing optimism that a hung parliament will strengthen parliament as an arm of government to perform its roles effectively. Ghanaians will see major transformation in our second term – Bawumia assures
Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahammudu Bawumia says Ghana will become a reference point in economic development in Africa and the sub-region in the next four-year term of the Akufo-Addo administration. He believes the country will experience a major transformation throughout the second of President Akufo-Addo. Dr. Bawumia has thus urged all Ghanaians to play contributory roles to make Ghana a haven for the general population. The Vice President made the remarks when he joined members of the Power Chapel Worldwide at Tanoso in the Ashanti region for the 31st Watchnight service. “We all have a responsibility to ensure that the country Ghana is made a haven for the collective settlement and not just for a selected few. There is no doubt in my mind that some significant foundation has already been laid for accelerated development, and we are confident that he who has begun the good work will help us to bring it to perfect completion. I am excited about the future of Ghana. We are going to be one of the powerhouses in Africa by the grace of God. We are only just beginning and so the next four years, we will see a major transformation in Ghana”, Dr. Bawumia assured. But by the grace of God, every Ghanaian that is alive today has a cause and a reason to thank God. Our message for next year is that there is hope for 2021 because we are alive. There is still hope for the many things we want to do or see as a country. So we need to rejoice and praise God for the possibility in 2021”, he said. Parliament announces ‘strictly by invitation’ programme to inaugurate Akufo-Addo
The Parliament of Ghana has announced a programme outlining activities to dissolve the 7th Parliament and inaugurate the 8th, as well as inaugurate President-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The activities are strictly by invitation, according to a press release issued by Director of Public Affairs, Kate Addo. According to the release, the current 7th Parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana will stand dissolved at midnight of January 6, 2021. Before then however, President Akufo-Addo will deliver the final State of the Nation Address on Tuesday, 5th January, at 10am before the House. ‘Ken Ofori-Atta will die in 2021’ – Bishop Salifu Amoako
General Overseer of the Alive Chapel International, Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako has predicted the death of Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta in 2021. Prophesying during his 31st watch night church service, he said God took him to the Bank of Ghana and Finance ministry buildings where he saw obituary posters of the Finance Minister boldly fixed on both walls. “The Lord took me to the Bank of Ghana and whiles I was looking at the building, something happened. I saw a picture on the building. I also went to the Ministry of Finance and I saw the same picture there. The Lord said what can you see? And I said I saw a picture of the man in charge of the finances of Ghana. Hear me. The Lord said we should pray for Mr. Ofori-Atta. If we don’t pray for him, from January up until March, this man will die.” The prophet added that four evil men who belong to an occult group are planning to eliminate the Finance Minister between January and March. “I am standing in this church but I’m in his house. I see four men. These four men are into occults and freemasonry. These men are digging his grave. If we don’t pray for him, this year will be a bad year for him. Between January and March there will be witchcraft attack on his health in a quest to eliminate him,” he stated. In a similar light, Rev. Alan Kyerematen will be chosen over Bawumia as NPP flagbearer in 2024 – Prophet
Leader of Alive Chapel International, Prophet Salifu Amoako has prophesied that the Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan John Kojo Kyerematen will be chosen over Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the next flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party. Prophet Salifu told his congregation during December 31 watchnight service that while he was in the spiritual realm, he saw two main personalities – Dr. Bawumia and Alan Kyeremanten – being shown to the NPP fraternity. According to him, Alan Kyerematen’s hand was lifted, as a sign of his victory but an unknown person who appeared disgruntled with the choice tried to force his hand down from behind. He continued that the attempt to bring Alan Kyerematen’s hand down did not suffice. Prophet Salifu asked members of the NPP to begin serious prayers to avert the confusion that he noted was yet to befall the party. “I saw two men. I saw Alan Kyerematen and the Vice President, Dr. Bawumia, both of them were standing there and I saw that Alan’s hand was lifted and another hand came from behind to pull his hand down but the man quickly lifted his hand up…,” he said. Adding; “The Lord is also telling me that we must also pray for that political party because there will be a major confusion there.” Alan Kyerematen is one of the few personalities tipped to fill presidential slot in the NPP after the exit of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Mr. Kyerematen who contested the flagbearership race of the NPP with 15 others in 2008 emerged the first runner-up. Shortly, after that he resigned from the party but made a comeback following several meetings with the leadership of the party.
