Presidential advisor and leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Amoako Tuffuor has died. He died on Thursday, 21 January, 2021. He is reported to have died in Kumasi, after battling with COVID-19. Dr Tuffuor was behind the school feeding programme which was started in October, 2004, under former President John Agyekum Kufuor. Nigeria got ban relief from President Biden on his first day in office

Official Statement On Abolished Ministries, Structure Of Prez Akufo-Addo’s New Gov’t
President Akufo Addo has released the composition of his government. As has been widely circulated in the media, there will be no deputy regional ministers in his second term and the total number of Ministers to be appointed won’t exceed 85. A statement signed by Eugene Arhin, acting Director of Communications at the Presidency, indicated that “seven Ministries, namely Aviation, Business Development, Inner City and Zongo Development, Monitoring and Evaluation, Planning, Regional Re-organisation and Development, and Special Development Initiatives, have been realigned.” The President has effected this realignment because “virtually all these special-purpose Ministries have achieved the purposes for which they were established. The Office of the Senior Minister has also been abolished. This will result in a total of twenty-eight (28) Ministries, down from the thirty-six (36) of his first term.” The statement further indicated “the President intends to appoint a Minister for Public Enterprises, who will be operating directly under the ambit of the Presidency, and not from a Ministry. The Minister will oversee a major restructuring of the entire state-owned enterprise’s sector to improve the productivity and profitability of the sector. A Minister of State has been nominated, and, if approved, will be assigned to the Ministry of Works and Housing, in addition to the substantive Minister, to give special focus to the critical issue of affordable, mass housing, envisaged as one of the priorities of the President’s second term. Asaase News also gathers that the former deputy Chief of Staff and Member of Parliament for Bantama in the Ashanti Region, Francis Asenso Boakye, will be appointed as the Minister-Designate for Works and Housing. University Senior staff in Ghana declared strike
State university Senior staff in Ghana have withdrawn their services with immediate effect. On Thursday, members who have formed the Senior Staff Association-Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) announced the decision during a press conference. Their decision came after the Teachers and Education Workers’ Union (TEWU) suspended a strike last Monday over similar concerns after an engagement with the government won the way forward. However, SSA-UoG is protesting for the non-payment of their Tier-2 pension arrears, market premium, etc. “I wish on behalf of the National Executive Council to announce the withdrawal of services with immediate effect,” “For the avoidance of doubt members are required to lay down their tools until further notice”, this was according to an executive member of the group Mohammed Zakaria, who was addressing members in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale. Minister nominees with findings against them might have it tough with the NDC vetting committee members
The former Deputy Education Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has revealed, that he is looking forward to seeing a committee where members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) can have the right teeth to bite and Ministers who are having some findings against them are likely to find it difficult this time due to the equal size of committee. Speaking on Joy FM PM: Express monitored by Apexnewsgh.com, Mr. Ablakwa said Article 94 clears what qualifies one to be a minister and the NDC are conscious of the fact that Ghanaians are watching and would not do anything to disturb the impending vetting processes. “I think that for now, it is for the executive to be well guided so that you do not, as it were present candidate or nominee to such a competitive committee, a committee where members of the NDC can have the right teeth to bite. If you look at Article 94, it clears what qualifies one to be a minister. You must first of all qualify to be a member of parliament, you shouldn’t have any finding against you from a commission of inquiry, there are some other laws for example if you have not carried out your National Service”. The Member of Parliament for Tamale North Alhssan Suhuyini has said Afenyo-Markin the Deputy Majority caucus does not carry out court orders, so it doesn’t lie with parliament to fight the battle of the court. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Effutu MP says the opposition NDC caucus are hindering government business with their actions of showing some level of protection to the Assin North Member of Parliament James Gyakye Quayson who illegally carrying himself as the MP Assin North despite an injunction. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Effutu MP, says the NDC has exhibited these tendencies since the business of the eighth Parliament commenced. He said the NDC caucus in the eighth parliament has refused to honor the High Court injunction restraining one of their members who hold dual citizenship [Ghana and Canada] from holding himself as an MP. He noted the behavior of the NDC caucus shows “bad faith” and “ambushed” of the system. “I think the NDC’s posture is dangerous for our democracy and dangerous for the rule of law in the sense that they have formed a human shield and protected Mr. Quayson,” he said. But responding to the accusation by the Deputy Majority Caucus in parliament against the NDC, the Member of Parliament for Tamale North Alhssan Suhuyini who was speaking on CitiTV monitored by Apexnewsgh.com said, Afenyo-Markin does not carry out court orders. “Afenyo-Markin does not carry out court orders, so it doesn’t lie with parliament to fight the battle of the court. The Member hasn’t been served any injunction, he was not in court when the so-called injunction was issued”. “The injunction was simply to stop him from been sworn in, so that the case may determine whether he has dual citizenship or not and that hasn’t been established. What we know in this country is that a citizen has been in parliament for 3 years, a dual citizen of Ghana has been in parliament, served the people of Bawku Constituency as its member of parliament for 3 years until the court determined he was a dual citizen and he was removed”.
