According to the elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Binduri, the source of good drinking water in Binduri Constituency is a big worry to the people, adding that is one of the most difficult situations the people of Binduri are facing. However, He was confident that been given the opportunity by the people of Binduri, he would make sure they take advantage of his networks. “I am hoping that am going to put in my best for them to take advantage of the network that I have, the people that I know, I am passionate about seeing that the living condition of the people of Binduri improves. Because we have a lot of problems there, people don’t have good drinking water to take. That is one of the most difficult situations our people find in Binduri, they can’t get portable drinking water. So, people are so frustrated, life is so unbearable for them. If you see the kind of water people drink over there, you will cry. So, we are trying to get everyone good drinking water in the next 4 years”. “Of course, there are issues about health, accessibility to health centres, supporting people who are in schools, employment issue is a challenge, a lot of people have finish school and they don’t have jobs, those who couldn’t go to school are in skillful work and they need support to expand their businesses like tailors, head dressers, mesons, carpenters they need support so that they can go through their training and programme and have something to do”. “We have a lot of infrastructure problem we can solve, the road network is very bad in Binduri, you know a rural constituency sometimes was part of Bakwu, so now, we have to work out to make sure we open up the place support people with their Agriculture because everybody in Binduri is a farmer. JUST IN: Sad News Hits Ghana As 12 People Drown in Apam Beach-[SEE PHOTOS]
At least 12 children have drowned while others are feared missing in Ghana’s Central Region despite a ban on sea swimming due to COVID-19, officials say. The victims were among dozens who had flocked to the Apam beach in the Gomoa West District to play football on March 7. The victims include two females all ranging between the ages of 14 and 17, according to a statement from the Central Regional Police Command. Beaches in Ghana remained shut since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the West African country. A search operation is underway with the help of local divers, a Police Commander at Apam told local media. “In the morning we had six…since the outbreak of COVID we had intensified public education in the area and our men have been implementing the ban. But they shockingly did not use the main beach road and the information is that they went in their numbers”, the officer said in an interview. The victims ignored COVID safety warnings and drowned, the police chief added in an interview. A statement from the Central Regional Police Command also said two victims were rescued and were on admission at the Apam Hospital. All 12 bodies have since been deposited at the St. Luke’s Catholic Hospital morgue pending autopsy. Investigations are ongoing, the police said. Spartans joins SAF Ghana in a clean exercise
Over the weekend of Saturday, March 6, 2021, the President of Spartans, Mr. Frederick Green led some members of the association to join hands with SAF Ghana and the Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly for a clean-up exercise in the Ablekuma North Constituency. The clean-up exercise brought together residents, especially members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) within the municipality and beyond. However, the exercise saw the Executive Director of SAF Ghana, the President of Spartans, and many other dignitaries leading a number of participants to clean some selected areas within the municipality. Some workers of the municipal Assembly were also there to grace the occasion. Speaking to the media, the President of Spartans, Mr. Frederick Green used the occasion to encourage the residents of the municipality to adhere to the Covid-19 safety protocols and also to take the vaccine been administered by the government. Africa’s foremost investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, has applauded EIB Network investigative journalist Edward Adeti, Joojo Cobbinah of the Multimedia Group and the Daily Graphic’s Emmanuel Hawkson for winning the maiden Article 19 Press Prize Awards. Article 19 Press Prize is an award scheme put together by the African Heights Foundation in partnership with an anti-injustice international organisation, the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA). It is an annual award instituted to encourage journalists to shine a spotlight on the ills of the criminal justice system in the country where they practise to cause reforms. The three winners are to receive the major honours for what the organisers describe as “their exceptional and compelling storytelling”. Anas, in a message to Adeti, says: “You have told stories that matter to our democracy. The three of you are a shining light to Ghanaian journalism. Keep the fire burning. Allah bless.” Anas also congratulated Beatrice Spio-Garbrah of the Media General (TV3) who won a special prize for the best female entry. You know in football, is the coach that does the selection sometimes depending on the kind of game the coach wants to play, he will decide the kind of players he wants to use. I know the President knows me very well, I have been in this party for a long time, I was the MCE for Bawku in 2008 during when we won 2 seats even under the very difficult condition when there was a conflict between the Kusasis and Mamprusis but we manage to win 2 seats out of 3. I have been very active in the party up to date the President knows me, most senior party members know me, they know my contribution to the party”. “But at the end of the day, it all depends on what kind of game plan the President as a coach has to play. Massive fear as 3 police officers die within 24 hours
Three police officers have died within 24 hours under various circumstances according to confirmed reports sighted by MyNewsGh.com sparking fear among their colleagues. Sources reveal that Sergeant Jemima Aidoo, Sergeant Adjei Kumi and Chief Inspector Godfred Osei Atunku at various stations died between March 6 and 7 2021. In the case of Sergeant Jemima Aidoo of the Tesano Police, she had complained of chest pains and was rushed to Mary Lucy Hospital at Awoshie and later transferred to Police Hospital for further treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival. Sergeant Adjei Kumi at the Aveyime Police station collapsed on duty and was rushed to the Roman Catholic Hospital at Battor for treatment. He was however pronounced dead on arrival by one Doctor Edwin of the emergency unit of the hospital. Chief Inspector Godfred Osei Atunku who until his demise was the Chamba Station Officer died at Bimbilla Government Hospital after a short illness. His body has since been deposited at Yendi Government Hospital for preservation while the rest are at the Police Hospital morgue in Accra. School Reopening for SHS 1 students postponed to 21 March
First-year Senior High School (SHS) students across the country are expected to report to school from Thursday, 18 March to Sunday, 21 March 2021, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced. First-year SHS students across the country were initially scheduled to report to school on Wednesday, 10 March 2021. However, the GES has postponed the reopening date to enable “the students and parents have ample time to prepare for school” while the management of the schools also “prepare to receive them.” A statement issued by the GES signed by its Head, Public Relations Unit, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, said: “Management has also noted that some students have not yet enrolled and the extension will give these students the opportunity to do so as well”. “Academic work will commence fully on Monday 22 March 2021.” The statement further disclosed that second- and third-year SHS students will go on mid-semester break from Monday, 8 March to Thursday, 11 March 2021. Former Ranking Member on the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee of Parliament, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini has explained the process National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmakers ought to have adopted in rejecting the nomination of three controversial persons. The approval of Information Minister-designate, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister-designate for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hawa Koomson and Minister-designate, for Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto was characterized by controversy last week and had to be subjected to a secret ballot on the floor of parliament. Shockingly, all three sailed through after garnering majority votes suggesting that some members of the NDC actually voted for them in order to confirm their nomination exacerbating the anger of NDC grassroots. But speaking on how it should have been done if the party was determined to reject the nominees, he indicated that they ought to have resorted to a three-line whip which is a a strict instruction to attend and vote according to a party’s position, breach of which would normally have serious consequences. “A three-line whip is simply that, no member can vote outside what the party or the caucus has decided, and when you vote, you must actually find a way to show that you have actually voted as directed [by leadership], and this wasn’t used.” The former Tamale Central lawmaker expressed disappointment in the turn of events on the floor of parliament paving way for the three nominees to be passed.
