MMDCE: 37 women expected to be named as part of MMDCEs long awaited list

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo submitted the list of nominated metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs) on Thursday 16 September 2021 to the Minister of Local Government and Regional Reorganisation, Dan Botwe. NPP to supporters: Be calm; respect Akufo-Addo’s MMDCE nominees
The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on its rank and file to remain calm and respect the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s list of nominees for metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs). The much-expected list, according to government officials, would be made public anytime soon. Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Friday 17 September 2021, the Director of communications of the NPP, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, accepted the fact that, not every person will have his or her preferred candidate nominated, but asked members to welcome the president’s decision. “We urge everybody to be calm and to act in ways that promote good relations at a working level in order to give the nominees the best possible opportunity to work in the interest of the grassroots of the nation,” he stated. The selection process, according to the NPP’s communications director, reflects the President’s vision for “our local governance system and country at large”. “Now that the selection process is over, we urge all former contestants and stakeholders to adopt the nominees as their own, encourage smooth confirmation processes, and support approved MMDCEs to deliver the best to their areas. Once the list is published, competition in any form, ought to end,” he said. The party also advised the nominees to, as much as possible, be open and provide space for divergent opinions. On the party’s ongoing registration of its members, Asamoa expressed concerns about how some officers are preventing some members from registering, thinking that, the register will be used for internal elections. “Party officer election registers shall be compiled differently and will be done later per guidelines to be issued… So, we are assuring all our polling station executives to open up, work hard and try and capture as many persons who are likely to vote NPP as possible. The names should also go into the books that have been provided. Akufo-Addo in Guinea to meet junta leader on ECOWAS sanctions
ECOWAS Chair Nana Akufo-Addo is in Guinea to meet with the country’s new military regime, a day after the regional bloc issued a communiqué demanding, among other things, that elections are held in six months for the country to return to democratic rule. The Ghanaian leader left Accra for Conakry on Friday, 17 September 2021 to discuss the resolutions with the junta. “I am currently in Conakry, capital of Guinea, in my capacity as Chairperson of the Authority of Heads of State of ECOWAS, together with the President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, His Excellency Alassane Ouattara, to hold talks with the military leadership in Guinea, led by Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, centering largely on the fate of President Alpha Condé, amongst others”, President Akufo-Addo said on social media. The Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) took its decisions at an Extraordinary Session on 16 September 2021 in Accra, Republic of Ghana, under the chairmanship of the Ghanaian leader. MMDCE list: Nsawam traders reject President Akufo-Addo’s nominee
A leaked document containing the nomination of some MMDCEs in the Eastern Region has infuriated some traders at Nsawam who have kicked against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s choice. A document sighted by GhanaWeb mentions the incumbent Isaac Buabeng as the one nominated by the president as MCE for Nsawam Adoagyiri Constituency. The retention of Isaac Buabeng did not evoke positive motions from some traders in the municipality who took to the streets of Nsawam today, September 17, 2021 to protest against the decision. At a press conference held after the demonstration, the traders accused Isaac Buabeng of failure to show much competence in the first term. They believe that his continuous stay in office will impede the municipality’s progress as the workload will fall on only their Member of Parliament, Yaw Annoh-Dompreh. JUST IN: NDC youth organiser ‘butchered’ over money argument
A Branch Youth Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Awutu Nyarkokwaa in the Awutu Senya West Constituency, Ebenezer Akrade, is battling for his life after a Branch Secretary of the constituency butchered him in a disagreement over money. The argument allegedly started during an argument over GHS600 purportedly given to them by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Gizella Tetteh Agbotui, to be shared among party executives. The Branch Secretary, Emmanuel Kwame Lartey, is reported to have spent the money at the expense of other party executives, incurring the wrath of the branch youth organizer, Ebenezer Akrade, who demanded his share of the money. Recounting the incident to Citi News, an eyewitness to the incident, Richard Nimo, said “during the 2020 elections, the then NDC Parliamentary Candidate visited the communities in Nyarkokwaa electoral area where she gave the branch executives GHS 600 to share. The money was handed over to the Secretary, Emmanuel Kwame Lartey.”’ “It was later found out that the Secretary spent the money without their knowledge. So on several occasions, the youth organiser for the party, Ebenezer Akrade, asked for his share of the money whenever they met.” “So around 1:17 pm today, the organiser met the Secretary who was on his way to the farm. The Secretary was with a cutlass. The youth organiser then confronted him and demanded his share. Before we realised, the secretary pushed the youth organiser who fell on his back, and butchered him,” he added. According to the eyewitness, the Secretary, upon realising the gravity of his actions, turned himself to the police. The Branch Youth Organiser, Ebenezer Akrade , has since been admitted at the Agona Dunkwa Salvation Army hospital. Koku Anyidoho did not learn anything good under Mills – Nii Lante
Despite touting himself as a trainee of the late President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, who shaped his appreciation of certain things as a man of peace fondly known as ‘Asomdwehene’, former Director of Operations at the Presidency, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, insists Samuel Koku Anyidoho learnt nothing. The Former Director of Communications under the late Prof. Mills’ administration, he contends, is a failure who did not learn anything good under the feet of the humble professor. “As far as the teachings of Prof Mills, the knowledge we acquired after working with somebody like Professor Mills, I can say without any hesitation that he didn’t learn anything,” the Ghanaian sports journalist now a politician and the current Member of Parliament (MP) for Odododiodio revealed. Mr Anyidoho, a former Deputy General Secretary of National Democratic Congress (NDC) was expelled by the party for being hostile to party rules and regulations.
