NDC: ‘I stand a better chance than John Mahama’, ‘his name is sullied with corruption’– Kojo Bonsu
The former NDC Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu said for now he stands a better chance in leading NDC to victory in 2024 than former President John Dramani Mahama because of the numerous corruption and women affair tag against him. According to Mr. Bonsu, the former President has become unattractive to the floating voter. He made the pronouncement during an interview on Citi TV Lifestyle Show monitored by Apexnewsgh.com Mr. Bonsu stated that he is contesting because “There is a vacancy and that is why we are all contesting the seat”, he said, adding: “It is democracy and our party believes in democracy, so, we don’t push people to take over. We don’t want that”. “So, if one is given the chance and he wins it, he will do the job. So, it is fair we all do it”, he noted. “One other reason I am contesting is not that I hate President Mahama. No. What has he done to me?”, he asked. “The problem is that people have lied a lot in this country about John Mahama. They put corruption on him”, Mr. Bonsu said. “They have said a lot of things against him that you can’t even take it off. NDC has the numbers in terms of votes but NPP has really soiled John Mahama that I feel so sad.” According to him, the NDC, as a party, has not helped the situation. “We should have redeemed him Mahama long ago but he doesn’t have a chance now”, he pointed. “Let’s bring in a fresh person so that the swing voters wouldn’t have anything to say against President Mahama”. He stressed, “I stand a better chance than Mahama because I have not been soiled. So, that is where I come in”. “It’s so sad”, he bemoaned, pointing out: “He Mr. Mahama is a great gentleman, speaks very well, very affable but he has been put in the mud so much”. “They have tagged him with corruption, women’s affairs and we the NDC have not been able to defend it and get him out of it”, he stated. He believes, “if the party had corrected this, we wouldn’t have come to this level”. “If we want to win the 2024 elections, I think let’s bring someone like me”, he appealed. “I am eligible to do it. It’s not an issue of fighting Mahama, insulting the former President or doing anything but the situation we find ourselves in, let’s try someone new and see if it will work.” He said. Mr. Kojo Bonsu is a Ghanaian businessman, sports administrator and politician, who served as the Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly from 2013 to 2016. UER: Another Police casualty in the region
A lady Police officer has been shot dead following the conflict in the Bawku Municipal of the Upper East Region. Police said, Constable Regina Angenu, who was with the Paga Police Station on Sunday, paid a visit to her colleague, Constable Erasmus Enkson of the Bawku Division. However, the duo was attacked around 5:07 pm by unknown assailants. The deceased was shot in the groin and died at Presbyterian Mission Hospital while undergoing treatment. The body has been sent to Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for preservation and autopsy. However, sources have disclosed that eight people sustained various degrees of injuries during the tension and were rushed to the Presbyterian Mission Hospital. Following gunshots in the early hours of Monday, December 27, 2021, which resulted in the loss of lives and the destruction of properties in the township, insecurity has become a significant concern in Bawku. Thirteen persons were subsequently arrested and airlifted to Accra following the violence. Since then, government, through the Interior Ministry, has implemented various curfews to reduce the tension. Also, the Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has banned the riding of motorbikes in the Bawku Municipality. The incident also resulted in heavy security deployment to communities within the municipality.
Breaking News: Bolga Assembly seeks to recruit butchers after butchers Asso refused to call off strike action
Management of the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly of the Upper East Region led by MCE Mr. Rex Asanga is seeking to employ butchers to operate at the abandoned abattoir in Yorogo a nearby community. However, when Apexnewsgh.com contacted the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Mr. Rex Asanga on the above statement of recruitment for interested butchers to apply, he said “The current butchers are refusing to relocate and giving conditions that are impossible to fulfill. According to Mr. Asanga, the Caterers Association within the Municipality are massively hits and currently going through some level of difficulty because of the strike action initiated by the butchers and they are seriously on the Assembly to get them a functioning place where slaughtering of animals could be done to enable their business continue smoothly. “But we cannot also allow the abattoir to waste away and stand there for years and also, once we have shot down the slaughterhouse, we don’t intend to re-open it now and the Caterers Association are on us because they need the services of the abattoir as they directly hit by the current impasse. So, the caterers need a place where slaughtering can be going on to continue with their business. So that is why we are trying to get some people who are willing to operate from the abattoir so that we can open up”. “They signed a memorandum of understanding with my predecessor and asked that 5 or 6 things be done before they move and the 5 or 6 things were done and the assembly asked them to move and they refused to move and I have come and am building on that. There are minutes of meetings they have flouted in the past. We gave them Dec 15, 2021, to move and they said they will move on the 1st of January, 2022 we agreed and they got what they want and they are still saying they will not move. They are the people who gave us the January 1st to move not us. We called them for a meeting to discuss and they refused to come and rather told us to come and negotiate with their youth and we also say no because we started engaging with you the Executives already”. Just In: REGSEC imposes ban on motor bike riding in Bawku
The latest statement issued by the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council (REGSEC) after the unfortunate shooting incident in Bawku Municipality on Sunday January 23, 2022 says, no man or woman should ride motor bike in the Bawku Municipality until further notice. Apexnewsgh.com report “The Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has examined the security situation and its volatile nature in the Bawku Township and with immediate effect imposes a ban on riding of motor bike in the Bawku Municipality and its environs”. The statement said. It is also instructive to note that this ban does not include motor tricycles. The ban affects both sexes. REGSEC requests that MUSEC enforces this directive with the urgency it deserves until further notice. The statement concluded.
