Reopen renal unit at Korle-Bu immediately– Minority demands
The Minority caucus of the Health Committee in Parliament is calling for the immediate reopening of the renal unit at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra for outpatients. Currently, the facility, which provides dialysis treatment to kidney patients, has been closed to such patients for over five months due to a lack of funds. The unit faced criticism for unilaterally increasing the cost of dialysis by 100 percent. Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman Manu has stated that the government is considering subsidizing dialysis. However, following a private meeting with the head of the Renal Unit of Korle Bu, Ranking Member for the health committee, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, expressed his concerns to the media, stating that it is unacceptable for the unit to remain closed due to a lack of funds. The MP for Juaboso urged the government to immediately allocate funds to the facility, as the lives of many patients are at risk due to this closure. “With the dialysis issues at Korle-Bu we think the government is being wicked. The government is being unconscionable and insensitive at this point in time. “If you recall when the increment came, we tried to meet management, they assured us that yes, they didn’t pass through the due process and therefore it was retracted. We also demanded that the refund be made and they assured that those who have paid on the next visit they will pay the difference,” Mr. Akandoh stated. OSP removed five bank accounts linked to Cecilia Dapaah
The Special Prosecutor has removed five bank accounts linked to former sanitation minister Cecilia Dapaah from its list of assets connected to corruption. Thugs who invaded UTV fined Ghc 200.00 each
The Achimota Court has imposed a fine of GHS200 on each of the 16 individuals affiliated with the New Patriotic Party, who unlawfully entered the premises of UTV on October 7, 2023. All of them were found guilty as charged by the Achimota Court, which convicted them based on their participation in conspiracy to commit a crime and rioting. UER: Kennedy Agyapong shame MPs for not making a single contribution to the Bolga Reg Hospital dialysis project
The aspirant for the Flagbearer position in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which currently governs, has expressed concerns regarding the involvement of 14 National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs and 1 NPP MP in the dialysis project’s progress in the region. Regrettably, none of the MPs from the region have contributed to the dialysis project, despite multiple attempts to communicate with them individually and provide them with the necessary information. On March 2, 2023, residents of the Upper East Region demonstrated their generosity by actively participating in a fundraising event dedicated to the aforementioned dialysis initiative at the regional hospital. Surprisingly, the 14 NDC Members of Parliament and the 1 NPP representative did not contribute or show any involvement in the event. Stephen Yakubu, the Upper East Regional Minister, described the launch of the initiative as a significant milestone for the Regional Hospital. He emphasized that the establishment of a 24-hour state-of-the-art Hemodialysis facility would greatly enhance healthcare services for clients in the region, marking a new chapter in the hospital’s history. He described the situation as an immense challenge and an equally significant opportunity for the stakeholders of the region. Furthermore, an appeal was made through A1 radio to Mr. Kennedy Agyapong, a hopeful NPP flagbearer, to donate to the ongoing dialysis project at Bolgatanga Regional Hospital. In response, Mr. Agyapong expressed his willingness to contribute but mentioned the need to assess his available resources. He explained that he was currently building a dialysis center and cardio center worth six million dollars ($6 million) at the 37 Military Hospital, along with training doctors. He had sent them to India for training, and the delay in the project was due to his campaign commitments. “I won’t say no to you, anything that will help develop Ghana why not. Rain, wind, extreme heat, or cold temperatures can all affect the comfort and safety of students, potentially disrupting their concentration and overall well-being. See The Fake Lawyer Who Won All 26 Cases He Controlled
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has released a blow-by-blow account of how busted fake advocate Brian Mwenda Njagi was able to criminally access the LSK portal, identify an account with a name corresponding to his, tamper with the details, and upload his own photo in a bid to infiltrate Kenya’s legal profession. According to LSK, an emergency meeting was convened from around 5 pm to 8 pm Wednesday evening to urgently investigate how Brian Mwenda was able to breach the LSK security and steal the identity of an actual lawyer. The firm says that Brian Mwenda stole the identity of a lawyer with a name that is similar to his – Brian Mwenda Ntwiga – after the legitimate lawyer reached out to the Secretariat after realising that he could no longer log into the system. On 28th September, after alerting the ICT personnel of his tribulations, they quickly noticed that the details in the system, particularly his email address, did not belong to him thus why he could not access his Membership portal. “On the 5th Day of August 2022, Brian Mwenda Ntwiga was admitted to the Bar and his correct email address was captured and an Account opened for him in the Advocates portal,” the statement said. “We reached out to Advocate Brian Mwenda Ntwiga who confirmed that he had not applied for a practicing certificate since his admission, reason being that he had been working at the Office of the Attorney General and did not require a Practising Certificate,” it continued. “It was only until sometime in September 2023 when he attempted to login into the system and activate his profile with the intention of applying for his Practising Certificate that he realized he could not access his LSK Portal.” LSK further says that an internal investigation was commissioned to determine how the email address could have been changed, breaching protocols. “The preliminary findings indicate that the masquerader applied the use of a common international fraud scheme known as Business Email Compromise (BEC) where a criminal in this case Brian Mwenda identified a genuine advocate status as being inactive, made contact to the secretariat to make an application for payment of his PC but which he couldn’t because his email credentials are incorrect,” the statement revealed. LSK went on to divulge that once Brian Mwenda was allowed access into the portal, he changed his profile picture, applied and paid for his practising certificate. “Upon being allowed access to the account, he took control of the portal and changed his profile picture, the workplace and applied and paid for the practicing certificate. However, his application was not processed since he was required to provide documents including the certificate of business incorporation,” LSK said. While reiterating that their portal was not compromised and that member’s data was safe and protected, LSK further said that they had invited the DCI to launch a manhunt for Brian Mwenda. “We have invited the DCI to send their investigators to launch a massive manhunt and the immediate arrest of the masquerader, (Brian Mwenda) and all his accomplices. The Council of the Law Society recognizes that masqueraders pose a serious threat to the practice of law and is determined to take decisive action to deal with this issue,” they said.
