Damaged test-run train needed over US$2.1 to be fixed– Prosecution tells court
State prosecutors have informed the Accra High Court that the cost of repairing a damaged train has been estimated at $2,138,466.66 by evaluators from Poland. Apexnewsgh reports The train, intended for the Tema-Mpakadan railway line, was damaged in an accident a few weeks ago. Four individuals are on trial for allegedly damaging the train. According to the updated charges presented in court, the first accused had purchased concrete blocks in Juapong, Volta Region, and transported them to Abutia, also in the Volta Region. After delivering the blocks, the accused and his colleagues attempted to use the railway as a shortcut, piling stones on the tracks to allow their truck to cross. However, the truck became stuck, and a collision occurred with a train conducting a test run on the same rail line, resulting in damage to the train. The four accused face multiple charges, including violating the Railway Act, endangering train passengers, unlawfully placing stones on the tracks, and causing unlawful damage. They have pleaded not guilty to the charges. Despite the prosecution’s request for remand, the court granted them bail of 200,000 cedis each, with one surety to be justified. The case will continue on June 27. Minister for Railways Development, Mr. John Peter Amewu, has clarified that Ghana will not bear the cost of repairing the train, as outlined in the purchase agreement. Mecca: Issuance of Nusuk cards to Ghanaian Pilgrims by the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Hajj and Umrah begins
The Saudi Arabia Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has started with the issuance of the mandatory Nusuk card to Ghanaian Pilgrims currently in Mecca for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.
