Political activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has taken his defamation case against National Security Minister Albert Kan Dapaah to the Supreme Court, seeking an order to compel the Minister to respond to 17 questions of fact. Apexnewsgh reports
Barker-Vormawor’s lawyers, led by Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, filed a motion on April 30, 2024, requesting the apex court to intervene in the matter.
The move comes after the Minister refused to answer the questions, citing national security reasons. In a response filed on February 28, 2024, the Minister’s lawyers stated that answering the questions would compromise national security confidentiality and the Minister’s oath of secrecy.
Barker-Vormawor’s lawyers argue that the Minister’s refusal to respond to the questions hinders the progress of the case at the High Court.
The questions relate to the Minister’s involvement in national security matters, his role in the National Security Council, and whether he considered Barker-Vormawor a threat to national security.
The Supreme Court is yet to fix a date for the motion to be heard. The case stems from a defamation suit filed by the National Security Minister against Barker-Vormawor over comments made by the latter, which the Minister alleges defamed him.
Barker-Vormawor has filed a defense and counterclaims, and the court is set to give further directions.
