Wa High Court Adjourns ‘Jirapa Dubai’ CEO Murder Case to July 12

A Wa High Court has adjourned the murder case of Eric Johnson, former CEO of Royal Cosy Hills Hotel (also known as ‘Jirapa Dubai’), to July 12, 2024. Apexnewsgh reports

The adjournment allows Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo to conduct broader consultations on transferring the case from Wa to Kumasi.

Justice Abdul Yusif Assibey explained that the Chief Justice’s office has received numerous petitions regarding the transfer and needs more time to reach a decision. The Court has also sent a situational report to the Chief Justice’s office, awaiting a response.

The potential transfer has raised concerns among the Upper West region community, particularly in Jirapa, about a possible miscarriage of justice. The lawyer for the second and third defendants, Mr. Luanga Bagonluri, has requested that the case remain in Wa, while the lawyer for the first suspect, Mr. Clement Eledi, argues that justice can still be served in Kumasi.

Chief Public Prosecutor Mr. Saeed Abdul Shakuur has also expressed concerns about transferring the case, citing the location of all witnesses in the Upper West Region and the logistical challenges of transporting them to Kumasi. The Jirapa Constituency Member of Parliament, Cletus Dapilah, has also expressed the community’s dissatisfaction with the handling of the case.

Eric Johnson was found dead in a hotel room on February 11, and the police investigation led to the arrest of the former HR manager, Elisha Mahama, and two others. The prosecution has presented evidence that the former HR manager and his girlfriend conspired to kill Johnson.
