The Mali football federation (FEMAFOOT) has announced the termination of head coach Eric Chelle’s contract, effective immediately. Apexnewsgh reports
The decision was made unanimously by the executive committee, with the approval of the supervisory authority, according to a report on national television.
No official reason was given for the termination, but it follows Mali’s disappointing results in recent World Cup qualifying matches. The Eagles lost 1-2 at home to Ghana and drew 0-0 with Madagascar, who played with 10 men for most of the second leg, in Group I qualifying matches.
Chelle, 46, was born in Ivory Coast to a Malian mother and French father. He had a professional playing career in France and represented Mali at the international level, making five appearances between 2004 and 2006.
His tenure as head coach of the Mali national team has come to an abrupt end, and the search for a new head coach is expected to begin soon.
