The Upper East Regional Chairman of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) Lambon Jafouk said the strike by the association is long overdue.
Mr. Jafouk made the comment in a Bolgatanga based A1 radio Daybreak Upper East monitored by Apexnewsgh.com on September 21, 2020.
On Thursday, the association issued a statement threatening to lay down its tools in demand of a better condition of working service.
According to their statement, government’s stance during negotiations did not meet up with act 651 of the Labour Law, which obviously deals with issues of good faith for stakeholders with which the association appears to have a disagreement with.
The strike since Monday has left patient in government health facilities across the Upper East Region stranded and some even losing their lives as a result.
Asking Mr. Jafouk why they should continue with their strike after seeing the effect on ordinary citizens, especially after swearing an oath to save lives, he said well, “that is where we have all gotten to, because the stands of our employers are not soft, when they soften their stances, we will all understand each other. I have said it before and am saying it again, we know very well that we are not in normal times but for the stance government has taken, is what have gotten us this far. However, we don’t want any lose any life, the reason why we give an early notice to the general public”. He said
Meanwhile, he described the news stopping them from continuing their strike action as a mere circulation from the media, because they association have not received any official letter from the Labour Commission
“We have also heard it in the media, but we have not officially been served and I think, we are law abiding citizens, if the Labour Commission letter gets to our leaders, their legal team will look at it and advice. But as we speak now, we have not received any official letter. For now, is just a mere circulation from the media”
“ We will set a team to go round a monitor and facility or member who flaunts the association directive will be dealt with according our way of doing things”.
