Some residents of Doba and Kandiga in the Kasena Nankana area of the Upper East Region have been arrested following the retrieval of guns and some other ammunition within the conflict zone

DCOP Dr Sayibu Pabi Gariba, the Upper East Regional police commander said, the police embarked on an exercise christened operation cordon and search after gathering some intelligence that some persons were mobilizing weapons in readiness for clashes between two communities namely Kandiga and Doba in the Kassena Nankana Municipal and Kassena Nankana West District.

“Today Wednesday, 11th of August 2021, at about 9 am we had intelligence that some people around Kandiga area have been assembling arms and ammunition intending to attack each other. For that reason, our personnel in the area conducting peace-keeping operations deployed under the operational strategy of cordon and search. In the process, they searched several houses in two different locations in the Kandiga area. Those houses came out with some fundamental security breaches which involve the accumulation or amassing of arms and ammunition,” he told journalists.

The Regional Commander disclosed that two pump action guns and a quantity of ammunition including over 500 rounds of AK47 rifles.
He added that some six suspects have been arrested in the process as investigations commence into the matter.

Meanwhile, owners of the two houses where the arms and ammunition were retrieved have been identified as teachers who are currently at large.
