An Accra High Court has adjourned a case challenging the passage of the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, also known as the Anti-LGBTQI bill. Apexnewsgh reports
The suit, filed by Paul Boama-Sefa, a farmer, seeks to restrain Parliament from proceeding with the bill’s passage.
The plaintiff alleges that Parliament breached aspects of the law while handling the Private Members bill. In court on Monday, June 3, 2024, the plaintiff’s lawyers, led by Benedict Nii Kraku, requested four weeks to submit their written submissions.
The Attorney General and Speaker of Parliament’s lawyers also made a similar request, which was granted by Presiding Judge Ellen Mireku.
The court has adjourned the hearing to July 29, 2024, allowing all parties four weeks to present their written submissions. The case’s outcome may have significant implications for the controversial bill’s future.
