A dramatic turn of events unfolded in Ghana’s Parliament on Thursday evening, January 30, 2025, as the Appointments Committee’s vetting process descended into chaos. Apexnewsgh reports
The tensions and heated confrontations between the Minority and Majority led to the destruction of tables and microphones, prompting a swift intervention by police and the Majority Leader to restore order.
The chaos erupted when the Minister-designate for Health and Foreign Affairs, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, was seated for vetting. The next in line was the Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
However, the proceedings took a tumultuous turn, with the Minority strongly disagreeing with the Majority’s assertion that the vetting process should continue beyond 10PM.
Frank Annoh-Dompreh, MP for Nsawom Adoagyire and Minority Chief Whip, expressed his discontent, stating, “We agreed on four. We have done five. Kofi Adams was not part of the process, but we have done it. It will not happen.”
To prevent further escalation, the vetting process was relocated to Speaker Alban Bagbin’s conference room. Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga appealed for calm, saying, “Please let us not destroy the enviable image that Ghana has created in terms of our democracy.”
The incident highlights the intense tensions and disagreements between the Minority and Majority in Ghana’s Parliament.
