In a bid to address the pressing food supply challenges facing the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah convened a crucial meeting to find sustainable solutions. Apexnewsgh reports
The discussion centered on establishing a reliable food supply system for the military while tackling outstanding debts owed to suppliers.
A startling revelation emerged during the meeting: the previous Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration had neglected food provision for the armed forces, resulting in a staggering debt burden. Reports indicate that between August 2023 and December 2024, the government accumulated an outstanding debt of approximately GH¢270 million to food suppliers.
Dr. Omane Boamah shared this revelation on his Facebook wall on Thursday, March 20, 2025. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson pledged to settle current food supply bills while working towards clearing the GH¢270 million arrears left by the former administration.
Dr. Omane Boamah emphasized the government’s commitment to providing both short-term and medium-term solutions to this avoidable crisis. “The well-being of our soldiers cannot be compromised, and we will begin implementing solutions starting next week.” The government’s immediate priority is to ensure a steady food supply for the armed forces while formulating a long-term strategy to prevent future shortages.
