In a bid to decentralize passport application services and ease the burden on the existing facility in Accra, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzato Ablakwa, has announced plans to establish passport application centers in all 16 regions of Ghana. Apexnewsgh reports
This move aims to make it easier for Ghanaians across the country to access and process their travel documents without having to travel to the capital. Currently, the primary passport application center in Accra handles a high volume of applicants daily, resulting in increased costs, congestion, and long waiting periods.
Ablakwa emphasized that regional offices will be sufficient to meet the needs of citizens, and there are no immediate plans to establish passport application centers at the district level. The government is confident that the reforms being carried out, including 24-hour operations and reduced waiting periods, will improve the overall experience.
With this new initiative, Ghanaians will be able to submit their applications and process their travel documents closer to home, reducing the need for long-distance travel and associated costs.
The government’s plan to regionalize passport application services is a welcome move, and it’s expected to bring relief to citizens who have been struggling with the current system.
