Pollster Ben Ephson has cast doubt on the chances of any alliance emerging victorious in the upcoming general elections in Ghana. Apexnewsgh reports
His comments come in the wake of Alan Kyerematen’s announcement of talks to establish a grand alliance for the 2024 elections.
The alliance, as announced by Kyerematen, includes the National Interest Movement (NIM) led by Dr Michael Abu Sakara Foster, a former flagbearer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), along with other political entities and individuals.
Ephson, speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show, explained that it would be extremely challenging for any third force to secure a win in the elections. He pointed out that historically, independent or smaller party candidates have struggled to surpass the 1% mark in previous elections.
According to Ephson, a cumulative effort from two or three strong independent candidates could potentially force the elections to a run-off if they manage to collectively secure 3% of the vote.
However, he emphasized that the road to victory for any third force would be steep given the dominance of the two main political parties, NDC and NPP, in Ghana’s political landscape.
