Donatus Akamugri, the Upper East Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed concerns that the Electoral Commission’s actions and inactions may hinder a fair 2024 general election. Apexnewsgh reports

Speaking to Ngamegbulam Chidozie Stephen during the “Enough is Enough” demonstration in Bolgatanga, Akamugri stated that since Jean Mensa’s appointment as Electoral Commission Chairperson, numerous issues have arisen, and the Commission has been unresponsive to the NDC’s suggestions.

The NDC’s concerns stem from an expose that revealed irregularities in the voter register exhibition. Despite calling for a live broadcast to address these issues, the Electoral Commission declined, and further requests for auditing were met with resistance. Akamugri emphasized that the anomalies in the voter register cannot be resolved without a forensic audit.

The demonstration aimed to draw attention to these concerns, urging Ghanaians and international bodies to intervene and ensure the Electoral Commission reconsiders its decision. Akamugri warned that manipulated elections can have severe consequences and stressed the need for trust in the Electoral Commission.

This development comes amid Ghana’s preparations for the 2024 elections, with the NDC seeking a level playing field for all parties. The Electoral Commission’s actions have raised concerns about the country’s electoral process, sparking calls for transparency and fairness.

As the 2024 elections approach, the NDC’s concerns highlight the importance of addressing these issues to ensure a credible and peaceful electoral process.
