Samuel Nartey George, the Minister nominee for Communications, Digitalisation, and Innovation, has reaffirmed his commitment to reintroducing the Anti-Gay Bill in the 9th Parliament. Apexnewsgh reports

During his vetting by the Appointments Committee on Thursday, January 30, George emphasized that the bill’s reintroduction aligns with the will of the Ghanaian people and is essential for upholding the country’s cultural values and societal norms.

George stressed that the Anti-Gay Bill is not about discrimination but rather about preserving Ghana’s moral and cultural values. He acknowledged that while Ghana is committed to human rights, certain practices are not in line with the country’s traditions and beliefs.

The Minister nominee expressed confidence that the bill would receive broad support from both Parliament and the general public, citing the people’s clear stance on the issue. George also dismissed concerns from international bodies, asserting Ghana’s right to determine its own laws without external interference.

This development comes after supporters of the Anti-Gay Bill protested against the Chief Justice in October 2024, demanding the expedited hearing of cases related to the bill. The bill, also known as the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, was passed by Parliament on February 28, 2024, but has faced significant hurdles since then.

George pledged to work closely with Parliament and relevant stakeholders to ensure the bill’s passage, reinforcing his dedication to safeguarding Ghanaian societal values.
